what a man. what a gift.

01smOh you guys. What a day.First off, we have the poor FedEx guys here at the house constantly. Between baby gifts and baby items we've ordered (and our regular items we've ordered), today we had at least four different drop offs. Crazy, right? I must say, I blame Target. I put in one order last week for 7 items (some baby stuff, some pharmacy stuff, some makeup stuff -- nothing fancy) and it all came with free shipping, so why not save the trip to the store, right? Because Target mailed EACH THING SEPARATELY. Yeah. So these poor FedEx guys probably think we're bringing in the haul, not realizing that one box had nothing but baby wipes in it.Anyway! Today, amidst the box barrage, there was something very, very special. It seems that my husband bought me a very fancy gift. For no reason at all.Well, because I'm carrying his spawn. But whatever, totally unnecessary. We all know he can buy me off cheap with Trader Joe's wine later, amiright?03smNow, you have probably picked up by now that I have a huge weakness for several things in my life:1. Wine2. Guacamole3. Watches4. Purses5. Jackets6. ShoesThat list right there? Those are my items of Kryptonite. They get me every time. But! You should also know by now that I do most of my shopping at Target and the Gap sales rack. I have a hard time justifying super expensive items (except for maybe 2 splurges each year from the Anthropologie sales rack). While I do have champagne taste to be sure, I have a hard time justifying the cost of said taste. So I shop sales. Lots of them.Anyway, you can imagine my surprise at seeing a Shinola box in the mail. Jamie had told me he ordered me a gift recently, and when it arrived just to set it aside. I figured it was a book.So I did set it aside today. And all day, I was thinking, "He probably got me a Shinola journal. Or a wallet. Or something small." Because you guys? I have been coveting these watches with Jamie for years. I absolutely love the design. I love that they are made by real life humans (not machines) in Detroit. I love that someone is bringing craftmanship back to the U.S. (You might remember a video I shared about a year ago on the company.)02snAnd when he got home, we opened up this glorious, beautiful package. And omg. It's a watch. The most goddamn beautiful watch I have ever seen. And? IT'S SHUTTERSMACK ORANGE. And look at the details in this package! The handwritten thank you note! The metal stamp of who exactly crafted my watch! The wooden box! Oh, I am so smitten.04smBut I'm also terrified. I'm not used to having things this nice! My iPhone almost always has a crack in the screen! I lose things like FitBits when I'm out shooting! I have a whole box of single earrings because I've lost the other one and I'm delusional optimistic that I'll find the second one again! So owning this very gorgeous, very beautiful, very expensive watch scares the crap out of me. And I will likely only wear it a few times a year on VERY special outings.05smBut at the same time? It will be such an awesome heirloom to pass down to our kid. Right? Man, I am so sorry ladies, but I got the best husband out there. I really, really did.And because lately I feel like every time I look at the news I'm filled with doom and gloom (Missouri! Gaza! Iraq! Ebola!), let's look at something happy for today's internet share, shall we? These behind-the-scenes photos from Sesame Street are guaranteed to make you smile.
