Wow, it is nights like this that make me SO happy I live in this amazing city.Tonight was the first of Doomtree's Blowout. For those out-of-towners or non-hip-hop fans (hello family of mine!), Doomtree is an amazing rap collective in Minneapolis that has an annual celebration (or Blowout) each December at First Ave. Usually it's a night or two at First Avenue. This year, for their seventh annual Blowout, they are playing for seven days straight. The first five are shows are put on and curated by each of the five rappers in the group, and then the last two will be larger shows put on by the whole group. Look at that? Doomtree 101 over here.Anyway! Tonight was the first show of the week, and Sims headlined. And hot damn did he get some amazing talent to open for him. We had both Astronautalis and Brother Ali (both of whom I enjoy very much, but only one of which makes consistently interesting photos... sorry Ali...).
