the perch

I really wasn't going to post another photo of this cutie today... but look at how she established this little perch for herself on top of our blanket basket! Sigh. It's a good thing she's this cute because holy cow, she can be a terror. Like when she wakes us up at 4:30 am by jumping on our heads with her claws and teeth bared, wanting to PLAY PLAY PLAY. We are so exhausted that I imagine this is what new parents feel like. They probably get even less sleep, but I bet their kids aren't this bitey and scratchy (yet). And in other Important News of the Day, today was a big one. Today I gave my notice at the Star Tribune (and vita.mn). My last day will be June 21 (or around there). Before you get all curious, nothing bad happened. I helped to launch vita.mn six and a half years ago, and it has been my design baby -- especially after I got to redesign it in 2011. I have learned so, so much from this job, and I have had the pleasure of working with so many amazingly talented people. This was an incredibly hard decision for me, and I am not taking it lightly. After all, I've been working in newsrooms since I was 16. So this is going to be strange for me, to say the least.Part of the reason I made this decision is that I'm ready to keep learning and exploring and pushing myself further, and I think I'm ready to try my hand at photography full time. I'm just now entering my busy season, and I've had some amazing opportunities lately that I've had to turn down due to too many obligations. I really want to open up my schedule a bit so that if more of these chances come up, I can jump at them. So I'll cut back one of my jobs and now stick to two of them (I will still teach at the U in the fall). This, of course, means that I will have more time for shooting and more opportunities for client work. So if you've been thinking of booking a shoot with me, this would be a fantastic time. Also, I'll take this moment to remind everyone that for each referral I get from you, you get $25 off your next session. So spread the word!
