Hey guys!I'm up on the north shore for the next day or so, and I'm staying at / photographing this *amazing* air bnb. It's right outside of Duluth, which was perfect because I had an amazing newborn shoot there this morning. And? As I type this from the couch I can see Lake Superior out the window. Or I could if it were still light out.Maybe if I wake up early tomorrow, you'll get a sunrise shot outta me, but I'm not promising anything. No internet shares today -- too pretty enjoying the real world.
What a weekend! I've been super busy with four shoots since Thursday, and I'm heading to the North Shore again this morning for two more! But all of them have super fun in each individual way.On Sunday, I photographed one family that I have been shooting for years and years and endlessly adore (photos from that session later this week, I promise!) and then I followed that session with some new clients and this six-week-old charmer. I swear, I have had some of the most amazing newborn sessions this year -- my clients are truly the best, and walking into such a new family puzzle is always such a treat. So much to laugh about and smile about. It's a great break from the day-to-day monotony.I hope you all have an amazing week ahead. I might have something special in store for you kids on Friday if all my scheming works out. Fingers crossed!Only one quick internet share today: Both of these hipster president paintings made me laugh. Exhibit one. Exhibit two.
I played hooky this morning and took Ezra to the zoo, and in the two hours we were there, what did we see? Penguins. Monkeys. Sharks. If you know anything about the layout of the zoo, you know that we barely scratched the surface. But the kid was happy, so I was happy.I hope you guys have a great weekend ahead! Here are some internet shares of the day:+ A super-interesting graphic about the most popular religions in each state that are not Christianity.+ Learn how to pack like a pro.+ Did you know Ruth Bader Ginsburg has a personal trainer? And this is her workout?
I had a photo session with that cute one year old up there this past weekend, and watching kids realize that they are being *encouraged* to stick their hands into the cake and make a mess? Then watching them do just that? It never gets old. Here are a few more images, just for laughs. And here are your internet shares of the day:+ Oh, Kansas. Way to keep up the reputation.+ I think I have to buy this t-shirt.+ A reason you should do the dishes.
Another day, more photos of someone named Lucy! But this is Lucy, the 11-year-old dog (with mad hops) who was in the studio last weekend. Either way, I'm photographing a lot of Lucys right now! My buddy/assistant, this pup and a little girl I photograph named Lucy! Super fun. Here are a few of my favorite shots with this pup. Enjoy! And for your internet shares of the day:+ I wish I could do this to my bathroom.+ Gorgeous photos from the Smithsonian's photo contest.
Some days are SO MUCH FUN! I have a shoot coming up with a musician, and I want to do something way outside my comfort zone and something more creative for this session. So I invited my buddy Lucy over to the studio and we played with light and had a BLAST. It's so fun to create crazy shadows and aim for the dark and dramatic, especially when it's not something you get to do very often. The images above were some of my favorites. For your internet shares of the day:+ The New York Times kicks so much ass in visual story telling.+ Squeee! I want to see this movie!+ Are you fascinated by Richard Simmons? Because I am. And did you know he's missing? And this podcast is out and it's FANTASTIC.
We had a super busy weekend over here -- Ezra's first car wash(es), Sunday morning waffles, trips to Ikea and Target, packing up of the kitchen (more on that in the next few weeks...), visiting of pre schools, a shoot with that cutie pie up there and then the Oscars. We were so tired Sunday night that we got ready for bed around 10:15 and I just followed along via twitter in bed in the dark until La La Land was named best picture, and then I put the phone away and went to sleep. So imagine my surprise this morning! Wow!In general, I love the Oscars. Some of it is cheezy (for sure), but I love seeing all the fashion and the heartfelt speeches. I will admit I was cringing so much when Jimmy Kimmel kept talking up the bus full of tourists coming into the show. But when they did, I fell hard for that lady with the selfie stick. She was SO GREAT. This is my favorite meme from her.Ok, here are your internet shares of the day:+ Speaking of The Oscars, I aspire to this level of sexy. Wowza.+ Surprisingly, I love this jacket in PINK. I know. Crazy.+ These habits that changed readers' lives are wonderful. I would like to get the "drink more water" and "yoga" and "take a walk outside at lunch" habits under lock asap.+ This basement bathroom remodel is amazing. And she did it all herself!
I had a wonderful portrait session today with that beauty up there. Since most people want photos of themselves where they are actually, you know, looking at the camera, I chose this outtake. I can't help it. I adore images where the subjects are looking away from the camera. Also? She looks so French! Like, after the session we stopped off for espresso and croissants (or maybe wine and cheese). For your internet shares:+ The photos of the week are pretty spectacular.+ These sandals are calling my name.+ Would you teach your kid how to light fires?
