Samson has the sweetest eyes

post by leslie

This is Samson! Look at those romantic eyes! He wants to take long walks with you in the woods and snuggle up in bed at night!Samson is a 4-year-old shepherd beagle mix. He is adorable and sweet and a fantastic and wonderful dog. He is well trained and loves dogs and people and cats and couches! He's super friendly and eager to meet new people and see new places. He's a snuggle bug who likes to be touching his people and he's socialized well for doggy daycares or the dog park. He's not a barker, and he does fine when left at home with the run of the house. You guys, he's perfect. Go get him right here. About this projectFor the next month, I’ll feature photos on my blog, my instagram and my facebook feeds that focus on dogs who need homes. These are dogs currently in foster homes, waiting for their forever family. They are amazing pups who will melt your hearts — some are hard to adopt because they are pit bull mixes (the sweetest dogs ever who cannot help their strength) or they have lived on the streets for a long time and are covered in scars or they might be blind or deaf (or both). Some are simply hard to get adopted because they are black, which is the dumbest reason ever. But each dog that has come into my studio in the last few weeks for photos has had a warm heart and wanted nothing more than love. Wouldn’t it be great if one of you could provide that? I hope so. tgif! here's a puppy for you!

Meet Sidley! She's only 10 weeks old, and is available for adoption along with her brother who will be featured soon, but you can get a sneak peek of him below.Sidley is a very smart girl, and seems to be settling in pretty easily. The two pups were found on a reservation up north, and they just began all of their training. They are very calm puppies, and they are super fun and playful, but not too wild or crazy. The rescue believes they are Shepherd mixes, but whatever they are, they are SUPER FLUFFY AND SOFT. And adorable. Did I mention that?Because they are so young, they can be raised fine with cats, dogs or kids. Go get these pups! Summer is the best time to raise and potty train puppies! Here is her adoption information! About this projectFor the next month, I’ll feature photos on my blog, my instagram and my facebook feeds that focus on dogs who need homes. Bring Gillie home before I do.

post by leslie

Isn't she GORGEOUS? This is Gillie. She's some sort of coonhound from Kentucky, and she is so sweet and gentle and those eyes? My heart swells. Her fur and ears are SO soft and shiny. Really you should just meet her to feel her ears. And then try to not bring her home. I dare you.Gillie is 2.5 years old and is 35 lbs. She loves a good ear rub and a good walk (she does well on a leash), and man-oh-man would she love to catch a rabbit. I suspect she and Magda would be fast friends. Oh, but that reminds me, she shouldn't go to a home with cats. This girl has quite the sniffer and knows how to use it! She's been taking tracking classes, and would love a family who could spend tons of time with her outside. Gillie does bark out of boredom, so she would just need stimulation (again, this is so similar to Magda! By the way, making her pose for photos counts as stimulation!). And when she's not at work, she's happy to sleep on the couch. As we all are, am I right? To learn more about Gillie and her adoption information, look here.About this projectFor the next month, I’ll feature photos on my blog, my instagram and my facebook feeds that focus on dogs who need homes. Go get Fancy!

post by Leslie

Welcome to my Adopt a Stray in May project! This is my second year running this project, as I think the start of summer is the *perfect* time to welcome a new pup into your family. Great weather for walking, easy to potty train with lots of outdoor time, and frankly, just a fantastic summer treat! My first featured dog this year is Fancy! Isn't she beautiful? She's from a reservation up north where she wandered as a free-roaming dog. Since living with her foster, she's learned the ropes of living with people, and loves her family interactions. Fancy is *super* friendly and good and mellow with other dogs. She's a couch potato who is happy to chill all day long, but she loves exploring on her walks as well (she's new to the leash life, but learns quickly!). She especially loves to check out forests etc and has been known to have a run-in or two with porcupines!Fancy is great in a crate when her owners need to leave the house, so that's never an issue. She probably shouldn't be in a home with cats (see the porcupine issues above) and does better with older, teenage children. You can see Fancy's adoption information here. Wouldn't she be a great addition this summer?!

This is Sugar, another rescue dog in need of a home. He is 6 years old, and is a papillon mix. He's very loyal to his person and is quite the snuggler. He's not super playful, but is good with other animals and respectful of kids. That said, he'd be great on his own.Sugar was rescued from Arizona, and the rescue (Pet Haven), is working to get him healthy before he is adopted. If you're interested in meeting this cutie, you can reach out to Pet Haven, and they can set something up!I will also point out that Wash, from Pet Haven, is also still available (and still adorable). And now a few internet shares:+ This movie looks great. I don't want to see it. Eighth grade was the worst.+ No matter how adorable, I could not live in 600 square feet with my family. Well, I could... but I don't want to. Sorry guys.+ I would like to visit this treehouse with them though.

Hadley needs a home

I had two more rescue dogs in the studio last week, and this is the adorable Hadley. She's around 2 years old and came from a hoarder's house down south. Because of this upbringing, she was not socialized as a pup, and is a timid girl. Not the kind of timid that runs and hides -- she came up to me for snuggles immediately, but she is pretty nervous around loud noises or small children. She has the kindest brown eyes, and seems incredibly loyal. She would do best in a home with another dog, as she loves having a sort-of dog mentor to show her the ropes. If you are interested in her and would like more adoption information, you can read more about her here.

Arya and Sansa!

post by leslie

More rescue puppies! Aren't these two adorable? Two weeks ago, I was contacted by Kare 11 to do a TV feature on my Adopt a Stray in May project, so I brought in a few more puppies that I thought would be good for TV. If you'd like to see the story that ran, you can watch it here. These two pups are Sansa and Arya. They are sisters from a litter brought up from the southern states. They are 5 mos. old and they are SO GOOD. They don't bark (!!) and they are mellow, but not timid. They are super well trained, but they do need you to show you are the boss in order to listen. They are both great with other dogs and kids, and they might be ok with cats if they had a slow introduction.Sansa, the one with the darker spots was adopted yesterday (win!!), but Arya (the white one with the adorable spots on her tummy and nose!) is still available. You can read her adoption information here. Also, if you maybe have too many creatures in your home and can't welcome another, but if you'd like to help Wags and Whiskers (the rescue fostering many of the dogs you've seen here), they have a wish list on amazon of supplies they need. You can purchase them online and they'll go straight to the rescue. Nifty! And since Sansa was just so cute as well, here are a few shots of her (even though she's been adopted). Enjoy!

oh sweet, sweet dumpling

post by leslie

You thought I was done? HA! I told you this project would be going on in a smaller fashion, and I'm going to kick that off today. My goal is to showcase a handful of dogs each month, and today is June 1, so let's just get it started. (Don't worry, next week will be back to normal.)This is Dumpling and she is five. Just look at that sweet face! This was one of the most gentle and loving dogs I photographed. All she wanted was affection. She just cuddled up next to me and kissed me gently, and she is just looking for someone who will treat her with kindness. We’re not sure of her background, but she is missing an ear, has damage to an eye and is riddled with scars. There might be bullet fragments in her skin. And after all that? She wants to sleep under the covers with you and shower you with kisses. She is calm and quiet, but not at all fearful. This sweetheart needs someone who will surround her with love and affection. This girl has had some health issues that the rescue is working to get cleared up 100% before adopting her out, but they believe she'll be ready in the next few weeks. Because she's not technically up for adoption yet, she doesn't have a page full of information. But if you are interested in adopting this lovebug, you can reach out to the rescue here or you can email one of their coordinators here. About this projectFor the month of May, I featured photos on my blog, my instagram and my facebook feeds that focused on dogs who needed homes.
