Tonight we made it over to the Varsity for the Ben Gibbard/Jay Farrar show. I couldn't bring my camera (extremely long story), so I thought screw it, I'll just shoot with my iPhone. Ha. Not such great results. Although, I did get this shot of Ben Gibbard. Total Ghost Hunters vibe. But not exactly what I was going for.
Tonight was the last night of the Best of Midwest Burlesk show. Last year was my first time to a burlesque show, and damn did I have a great time. This year I dragged Jamie along with me (really had to twist his arm on that one, eh guys?). Anyway, a night full of glitter, feathers and fishnets is guaranteed to be a fun time. You can see more photos over here. Also, if you missed the show, Lili's Burlesque will be performing next Friday at the Bryant Lake Bowl. I promise you'll have a blast. But maybe not for a first date...
This is one of my many shots from The Current's birthday party at First Ave tonight. I took waaaaayyy too many photos (it was a long show, people!) and it has taken me almost 2 hours just to edit the shots down to the "vital" 500. Yeah, you don't even want to know.Anyway, this is a shot that is straight from the camera. No photoshop trickery at all, just pure saturation from the lights. He's the guitarist for Solid Gold, who were the headliners tonight. Meh, that band is OK. But you know who was fan-fucking-tastic? P.O.S. I just love watching/shooting that guy live. And you know what else? Prince was there. Yes, Him. He came to show support for the station, but alas he did not play. Still pretty cool though. You can see more photos right here. Knock yourselves out, kiddies.
Tonight we had our shoot for the vita.mn hotness finalists. I had some cool shots of the finalists themselves, but I couldn't post those and give anything away now could I? So instead you get this little tease. These shoes were sexy as hell, I thought. On nights like these, I'm pretty lucky to have such a fun job.
Wow, today was a total rollercoaster, but it started out on the right foot for sure. I got to work and had this *enormous* bottle of bourbon waiting for me. I won this bottle in a bet on the Kansas game against my friend Spike. He's one helluva guy. We won't discuss the trickery I had in mind had I lost. He's a better man than I (or person. whatever).
Remember last week when we went out to the gay bars to say goodbye to Matt and Bryan? Well tonight was the official goodbye. A few of us met up with the boys at fancy schmancy La Belle Vie to sit by the fire and share a few last laughs. My favorite part of the evening was when Bryan was trying to order a cheeseburger, and all they served was some sort of fancy lamb burger with high-end goat cheese and he's saying, "Yeah, um, can I just get that with American cheese? That's my favorite. And can you skip the yogurt-whatever sauce and just use ketchup and mustard?" If only there had been a McDonald's across the street, my dear.So the bad news is that I will miss them terribly. The good news is that a) I'll get to see Matt again in March in Austin, and b) I'll have a free place to crash when I finally make it to the 930 club in DC. Which will have to be sooner rather than later.*This photo is of the chandeliers at La Belle Vie. I told you it was fancy.
Some might think that Merlin is yawning here at Missouri's attempt at offense during tonight's game in Lawrence. But no. He is laughing hysterically at the joys of beating those damn Tigers. Rock Chalk.
The St. Paul Winter Carnival was this weekend, and we went over to check out the ice sculptures. This one was my favorite. You can barely see a paw coming up from the ground, but there was a second cat reaching up for the bird. This visit just wrapped up our weekend of "things we never do." A bar called "Tickles," cougar bars, Coolio concerts, St. Paul and watching football. Yeah. Things should be back to normal next weekend, for sure.
