Yeah, this photo isn't from today. Obviously. I shot some images from work tonight (I had a shoot I was art directing for our annual "crush" contest at vita.mn -- you can see a similar instagram shot here), but this old shot of Memphis seemed more applicable to my day.First off, I've tried to stop mentioning it on the blog, but I'm still missing my baby girl like mad. I dream about her and wake up expecting her in my arms. I eat at the kitchen table and try not to step on her tail (she loved to nap under that table) and I miss her smell and the softness of her ears so much. And the idea that I'll never be able to take another photo of her tears me apart. And yeah, I realize it has now been six weeks. But it's not like y'all don't know I'm a sucker for dogs.Anyway, today I was at work in the middle of the afternoon and I just thought of her and man, I almost cried at my desk. It just washes over me at crazy moments. But I pulled myself together and I moved on. And then tonight after the shoot at work, I found out that my nieces' and nephews' dog, Ruby, passed away today. And that is just devastating, both because she was a fantastic and wonderful dog, and also because my nieces and nephews are old enough to know exactly what death is and how horrible it is, and to deal with that at such a young age is hard. Hell, dealing with it at my ripe old age is tough. She wasn't old and she wasn't sick -- she had a freak medical emergency on Sunday and needed surgery and today she died. And I'm so very sad for them. And then I was looking through my photos from my last visit to California hoping I had shot a frame or two of Ruby (which I somehow didn't and I am totally mad at myself for), and instead I found this old image of Memphis that I'd left unedited. It's from the week after we returned from that California trip, just two days after Memphis was diagnosed with kidney disease. Look at those eyes. God damn I miss that face.
Ooof, Wednesdays are rough with the 12-hours of working. I got home and we made this delicious steak and had some Brussels Sprouts and red wine and watched some trash TV and now I'm crawling off to bed. I know the blog has been a touch on the slow side. I have something splendid planned for this weekend though. Be patient with me.
I can't believe we haven't killed the orchids.
Tonight, after a VERY long day, I met up with the Rivets crew to plan our... appearance... at a... wedding fair. I know. Who AM I? I mean, a wedding fair? But here's the deal, I think this is one of the best wedding fairs in town as they are super selective about who is present, and I also think that Eliesa, the boss lady of Rivets, is a "go big or go home" kinda lady, and I trust that she's gonna make this cool. And that's A LOT of trust. But so far, I'm pretty pleased with how things are going. Oh! And speaking of this, if you book me to shoot your wedding this Saturday at the wedding fair, you get $200 off the price. Just sayin'.But let's talk about the photos above! The first one is of us assembling the big sign/portfolio/art piece to have at our booth (it is really lovely -- way better than some lame vinyl sign) and the second photo is of Daisy the ADORABLE beagle who works with the artist next door to our studio and who stopped by to say hello on her way outside. How cute is she? Man, and she knew a dog sucker as soon as she saw me. We were fast friends. Also! I posted more photos from that Free Energy show. Yes, it was pitch black. Yes, my images are extremely grainy. But it was too much fun to keep them to myself. They're up here. Enjoy!
Oh, what a lovely snow we're having. And I am 100% thrilled about it because I made Jamie get up and out before noon (ok, around noon) so we could run our errands and be back home by 1:30 -- which was right when it began to snow. How lovely is THIS?The lighter smudge at the bottom of the door window is Merin watching me take photos in the snow. It is so, so pretty and quiet out right now. And all we have left to do today is a touch of laundry and snuggling under covers watching TV while sipping tea. Hibernation is the bomb.Oh! And the errands we ran! They were to West Elm to pick up the finishing pieces to my office! I know, I know I haven't blogged about it yet. It's because while it was pretty much finished back in November, I didn't have any art hung because all the pieces I wanted to hang were in my art show! And now I have them back and I'm figuring out how to hang/organize my favorite pieces. And then I promise a finished blog post. Now if I can only find those pesky "before" photos...
Oh thank the lord Jamie was feeling well enough to go out tonight. We stayed in all day and didn't even get out of our pajamas until after 3 pm (now THAT is a successful Saturday). And around 9, we headed over to the Turf Club to catch one of our faves, Free Energy. The show was amazing, and there was so much dancing and jumping that I swear, you could feel the floor bouncing. I have felt that at a few clubs in my life, and I'm not gonna lie. It always makes me nervous.Anyway, the show was full of laughing and dancing and smiling and ... total darkness. I swear, there was not enough light to capture HALF of the fun (or even a quarter of it). Hence the graininess of this image. But whatever, I loved the jumping and the t-shirt, so this is what you get. If the boys are coming to your town, please go. I promise you'll have fun.
Well... Jamie's tonsillitis is a little better today, enough for him to get dressed and work from home anyway. I, too, spent the day working from home with the exception of taking Merlin for a walk (hello 12 degrees!) and a trip to the grocery store. Tonight we stayed in, ate bowls of homemade chicken tortilla soup (yum!) and finally signed up for Netflix.Yes, that's right. Until now, we have lived our life Netflix-free. When you have DirecTV and tivo, the list of entertainment is always solid. But tonight we decided to sign up for the free month and see what we could find. And we found Sherlock! My-oh-my was that a fun find. If you haven't checked it out, you should. Three episodes a season at 1.5 hours each. We have one episode left in season one, and I suspect that by the time you read this, that will no longer be the case.
