Tonight was Vita.mn's "Are You Local?" event, which is a big concert with seven bands and serves as a sort of SXSW sendoff. I really wanted to shoot the full day (behind the scenes and all), so I started at 4ish. It is now 2:30 am, and I am soooo tired.Above, you'll see Wiping Out Thousands, who sounded great as usual. Plus, the venue had fantastic lights and smoke which was perfect for this duo. But this is not my favorite shot of the night. THAT was shot after midnight, so I'm saving it for tomorrow :)Oh c'mon, I shot 24 gigs of photos tonight. You better believe I'm gonna give myself a break tomorrow! And tomorrow is when I'll post the full set. Happy Weekend everyone!
Tonight after work I met up with a friend for dinner to talk over some Big Ideas he has on starting his own business. I love brainstorming ideas with other creatives -- especially when they work in other fields than mine (he's a web designer). As I was walking to my car, I noticed all of the lights hanging in the alley, and thought I'd snap a photo. But for some reason, I like this shot better out of focus, so that's what you get. I think it's because I am bone tired and ready to crawl into bed.Kinda boring today, but tomorrow will be fun. I promise :)
Way back Wednesday returns. Today would have been Memphis' 10th birthday. There were some tears in the car today, I'm not gonna lie.A few people have asked us if we're thinking of getting another puppy ... and we are. Eventually. (Like maybe one of these? Or maybe a rescue?) But we're still missing this girl way too much to be thinking about a new addition to the pack. I think we'll tackle that this summer when potty training will be a touch more pleasant (and less bitter cold). And when we're not travelling for awhile.Damn, she was cute. Right?
Today was rough. I redesigned the same page three times thanks to our new system that kept reverting all afternoon to previous versions of my work. AWESOME. So I was gonna come home and grade the last half of my students' projects, but I realized that my mood was amazingly foul, and I wouldn't want to take it out on their efforts -- that just wouldn't be fair to anyone. So instead I poured a big glass of wine and settled in with some fashion magazines.I have to tell you, I loooooooooooove magazines. I love the feel of the expensive paper in my hands and the color and the design and the photos and wow, do they make me happy. I've made it through two of these since dinner, but I think I'm gonna take a break and go for a walk with my boys. Then maybe I'll dive back in to some yummy, glossy fashion goodness.
Today was simply work and yoga. And meatballs in homemade tomato sauce. And a basketball game (soon). But the work was fun in that I photographed some headshots for a client in his (stunning) home and he had this beautiful cat who followed me around. In case you haven't picked up on this yet, you should know that if you invite me into your home and there's an animal there, I will take photos. Whether that's what you hired me for or not. It's in my DNA.
So last night after Astronautalis and Why (which you can see a full set of over here), we grabbed dinner and then waited in line until we could get into the Wolf Lords CD release party. Yes. This was their first show since the album (except for that Fetus show on Tuesday) and we had to wait in line at 10 pm... How great is THAT? I love this town. The show was wonderful, but man I felt old and tired by the end of it. Carrying all that gear all night to 2 shows and shooting 6 bands got my back aching. So this morning I got up early and hit a yoga class and... aaaaahhhhhhh did that help. I think I'm gonna need to seriously step up my yoga game before SXSW for fear of feeling my age. Also? Sidenote? This Wolf Lords album would make a great yoga soundtrack.Photos from this show are up over here. Enjoy!
