Today we drove 5.5 hours south to Maquoketa, Iowa, to see the Barnstormer 3 tour. Five bands in a rustic barn with sparklers, champagne, friends and a bonfire? Sound like a successful road trip for me :) It's 3 am though, and I'm too tired to edit all 1800 photos I took since leaving the house today (what? Iowa is pretty. And there are cows. And FIVE bands! and a BARN!). So here's one shot from my favorite set tonight, Free Energy. The rest will go up in the next day or so. I hope.Ok! The photos are all up over here. Enjoy!
So look at that! Some of you know that I relish the idea of some day owning a classic car. Ideally, my dream car would be a late 60s/early 70s Mustang Fastback You know, the kind with the racing stripes. I think those old muscle cars are tres sexy.Anyway, back to the photo above. I happened to stumble upon this beautiful '65 red Mustang for sale up the street this afternoon. The interior is pristine, cream leather. The car ins't in mint condition, but it's not far off. Anyway, I have a call in for a test drive later tonight. In all honesty, I can't say I'm gonna drop a lot of cash on the car since it's not "the dream" car. But I am gonna go enjoy the drive :).
Tonight we had a very fun and last-minute photo shoot that made my day. I don't want to get into the details (you'll have to wait, my friends), but I'll tease you with this: sequins+whiskey+limo+cameras=damn good time. A great end to the week, especially before the fun road trip.
Memphis got this ball at the birthday party last week. It must be smaller than a normal tennis ball, because she can fit both hers and Merlin's in her mouth at once. I would have that as an image, but, um, we can't seem to locate Merlin's ball right now (insert joke here).Anyway, this is just us playing after I got home from an insane day at work. This was followed by Chipotle and Tivo, a winning combo, for sure.
What a lovely morning to do yoga in a theater overlooking the river! Two of my favorite yoga teachers in town started Gorilla Yogis, and they invite folks to practice in odd spots in the city. I thought this morning's session would provide wonderful light, so I went to shoot it instead of, um, do it. Plus I got 30 more minutes of sleep that way (laaaazy). There are some more photos of the class over here. Also, it's getting a little quiet around these parts, eh? I haven't posted a band photo in WELL over a week. So I might remedy that later. I'm heading out to shoot Yeasayer tonight, and if you are itching for more rock'n'roll, check back tomorrow and I'll send you a link to those shots. And just for the record, I had TWO great photo opps today and I have ZERO for tomorrow. But that's how life works, I suppose.
A pretty boring and domestic day around here. I got home from more than 10 hours at work to walk the dogs and cook a bunch of food for the rest of the week. Yeah. Boring. While on the walk, I thought the least I could do was shoot some photos of plants that appeal to me. We're about to replant our front-yard garden, so I'm trying to have some sort of affection for plants and flowers right now and look beyond the work all of this will entail. Normally, I'm not a fan of tulips. But I sure do like that fuzz. And these seem to come back every year for my neighbors, so maybe I could handle that. If any of you garden types knows what these are called, please comment. (I'm lookin' at you Chizzy.)
This afternoon a bunch of my girlfriends from work met up and we celebrated a birthday by hitting up the GoKarts south of the city. I had never been to drive GoKarts, and man-oh-man was that fun! Those of you who have fallen victim ridden with me in the past (especially back in the '90s) know how much I loooove to drive fast. So racing around the track, bumping my friends and taking corners at high speeds was a total blast. I'm already starting to plan another outing.I combined a few photos above today so you all could enjoy the full dorkdom that is wearing the racing helmets. Top left is Colleen, I am below her (thanks to birthday girl Catherine for shooting that one) and then at right is Nyberg, Michiela, Catherine and Nan. I love how it looks like those four might be floating in outer space. The girls in black and white stripes were the fastest :)
