torn up
0430triasm.jpg

0430triasmI've been keeping this on the down low because... well... it's embarrassing. See, last week after an *amazing* yoga class, I was back at work, carrying my coffee upstairs, when I tripped. And coffee went everywhere. And I fell on the stairs. And I tore my calf muscle pretty bad. There may have been some screaming, cussing and tears. Magda was hiding under the dresser, she was so nervous. Anyway, I spent the weekend icing it and keeping it elevated and staying off of it, but today, almost a week later, it wasn't much better. So I sucked up my pride and went to the doctor. The good news is that I don't need crutches and I'm not injuring myself further by walking on it. The bad news is that it hurts a lot, and there's nothing I can do for it, and it will take about a month to heal. A MONTH. And in that time, there is to be no yoga and no dog walks. Yeah guys, Magda is PISSED.Let's get to the internet shares, shall we? First off, I'm too claustrophobic to go scuba diving, but this sure is awesome. Second, who wants to come over for pink grapefruit margaritas? And third, I can't resist these pretty ladies made of paper. You know me. I'm a sucker for this stuff.

pizza pizza
0429pizzasm.jpg

0429pizzasmWhen I said yesterday that I would have to go back to Red Wagon pizza so I could take a photo and show it to you, I honestly didn't think I'd return only 24 hours later. But today was glorious outside, and Jamie and I agreed that we really wanted to dine on a patio somewhere. And he suggested pizza... sooooo, off we went! I didn't mind (I could eat pizza all day and all night), and this way I could try one of the pies I had my eye on the night before! And? Ezra got to try it as well. As you can guess, pizza was a HUGE hit with the kid.For your internet share of the day, this podcast about human behavior and facebook FASCINATED me today. Just go click on it and listen in the background while you work today. Pretty interesting stuff...

knuckle sandwich
08sm5.jpg

08smI am sharing this photo with you today for two reasons. First, it totally cracks me up. These two were in my studio this week for my Mother's Day sessions, and once the boy put on the mustache, we were goofing around with funny poses and I suggested fake fighting. It's especially funny because these two are obviously so nuts about each other, but they both also love hamming it up in front of the camera -- which made them super fun to work with! The second reason I'm showing you this photo is because I intended to photograph Red Wagon Pizza tonight as I was there for dinner and it was spectacular and beautiful and totally photo worthy! But I forgot to take a photo. Because I just wanted to eat the pizza. BAD BLOGGER! So I suppose I will have to return and do that another day!For your internet share today, check out these amazing bird photographs that won the contest from Audubon. Just amazing work here.

monday at the madhouse // sun's out, tongue's out
01sm8.jpg

01smWhat a fun week! First off, being able to have this little man sit on his own (and be stable enough to not worry about falling) is a huge benefit to our day-to-day life. I had no idea how great this milestone would be. Probably up there with SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT. But I wouldn't know about that one yet, now would I?Anyway, Ezra continued being adorable this week, Magda continued to be on great behavior and we had a ton of fun. One interesting development is that Ezra looooooves to stick his tongue out. You'll see that theme throughout the images. In fact, more than Ezra had their tongue out this week. Also? If his tongue isn't out, he's likely making farting noises galore. He's gonna be a great date, I tell you.02sm 03sm 04sm 05sm 06sm 07smEven Ezra's buddy Eero had his tongue out this week! We invited Eero's family over for tacos and took photos in sombreros after. Because... fiesta. Yeah. You know.08sm 09smHa! How ridiculous does he look in these sunglasses? He thought so as well, because right after I snapped this he threw them on the ground.10sm 11sm 12sm 13sm 14smFor your internet share of the day, have you seen Obama's remarks at the White House Correspondents Dinner? Because it made me snort out loud. Enjoy!

yup, it's diarrhea planet
02sm8.jpg

02smOooooooh kids. Last night Diarrhea Planet was playing at the Turf Club and you better believe we hired a babysitter and had an amazing time seeing some good old fashioned rock'n'roll. My face is still sore from all the smiling. Want to know what you missed? Here, watch them play a song live.Want to see more photos? Here you go.And you better believe I got a t-shirt. Ezra will probably get kicked out of school for wearing it in middle school. Well worth it.

turning another corner
0423Magssm.jpg

0423MagssmI kinda left Miss Magda out of this week's Monday at the Madhouse post. I felt like talking about her would seem like a brief addition, and she deserves much (much) more than that. So I'm using up a full post to update you on our princess here.So what's the story? She has been WONDERFUL. I don't know if she's sad because Merlin is gone or if she was always jealous of him and acting out a bit or maybe she's just picking up on our own sad vibes, but kids? She has calmed the hell down. Sure, she's still squealy and jumpy when company arrives. But day to day? Her behavior has improved IMMENSELY. And I hesitate to write this for fear of what's around the corner, but I'm so dang proud of her that I cannot resist. She walks right by my side now -- rarely pulling or wrapping my legs up with her leash. She comes when called. She snuggles like it's going out of style. She is so gentle and careful with Ezra. This morning she greeted him by licking his toes and resting her chin on his thigh while he was on my lap.I don't know if this will last, but I am so grateful for this development. As if I couldn't adore her any more, something like this happens and here I am.Also... notice the grey on her chin? Looks like my sweet thing will prematurely whiten like Memphis. Ah well, I can't be too critical. Ezra is turning my own hair white as well. For your internet share of the day, the making of this New York Times sunday magazine cover is RAD. Check it out.

earth day 2015
18w1.jpg

18wToday I've been working on processing a shoot I had last week with two adorable golden retrievers. This girl here? Daisy? She's 15. And you can bet she reminded me of this little lady. Daisy is slowly going blind (poor girl!) but she still has lots of spirit and was happy to follow me around working for treats and posing for the camera. Also, today is Earth Day. For most of you, it's a day to think about the planet etc etc etc. But for us, it's the anniversary of us adopting Memphis back in 2003, so our thoughts are with that troublemaker and how she stole our hearts for 9 glorious years. For many years, when I thought of that girl I was so sad about how she died or about how much I missed her. And I still miss her. But now remembering her makes me happy. She had so much spirit... grief really does get better over time. I'll be glad when I'm in that same space with Merlin. For your internet shares of the day, watching them turn this space from a hockey arena to a basketball arena was fascinating! Also (thanks Margaret!) I love this site that shows you where to find your shows streaming on the internet. And lastly, this collection of photos for Earth Day are stunning. Go look for yourself.
