And bunny watch 2010 begins. Jamie found this group of baby bunnies in our front yard tonight while walking the dogs. You might not know this, but baby bunnies have no scent, so the mothers stay away during the day to keep them scent free (to protect them from predators). But the sad news is that it looks like the one on the right didn't make it. And these guys are *little*. I'll keep an eye out and maybe shoot them again as they get furry (fingers crossed). And the dogs walked right by and didn't even see them. See? No scent.
I had a late dinner with Julie tonight at Om, my favorite Indian spot. Have I mentioned how much fun I have with this woman? How sweet and thoughtful she is? How she makes me laugh until I cry (and maybe snort)? Oh, right. I have mentioned that, sigh. Dear Texas: You are about to get an amazing woman down there. Treat her right. But back to this photo. So I was driving home from dinner, and I already had a few shots to work with from today, but my God was the sunset gorgeous on the lake. And there were two guys out there fishing in a boat! So I pulled over to get a few photos. I had some where the boat and the fishermen were in perfect focus... but it looked too much like one of those horrible inspirational posters you see at the office (The beatings will continue until morale improves). And I couldn't bring myself to post that. So you get the artier version with the ripples.
This morning I crawled out of bed around 6, went down and caught up on the news, then when I came back up to bed, this fluffy little golden retriever had stolen my spot! Even my pillow! She's an ornery one.
Today my good buddy Carlos set up a lighting workshop for me and a few friends. It was a long day, but man did we learn a ton. And we had some great models who came in for new headshots. This is Alex from Ignite -- stunning, eh? And Carlos' photo studio has a walk in safe. You know, it just came that way. How cool is that?
Baby Bodhi turned one today! We helped him celebrate with delicious homemade thai, korean and chinese food. Seriously, Bodhi's dad can COOK. And Bodhi got to taste chocolate for the first time! Quite a momentous day for this little guy.
Welcome to Broder's, one of my top 5 restaurants in the Twin Cities. We came here tonight for dinner after a raging storm that forced other dinner cancellations (Broder's is about 2 miles from our house, so it's always the easy fall-back).I love how these candles hang in the windows, welcoming visitors in for a delicious pasta dinner. My favorite dish is No. 11. It's homemade pasta, asparagus, prosciutto, greens, almonds, shaved Parmesan cheese and chicken in a balsamic reduction sauce. And they knock it outta the ballpark every single time. This is the kind of restaurant I could become a regular at (if I'm not already).
Look who's back in town! Brian and Matt returned to the Twin Cities for Pride this weekend, and Margaret and I were lucky enough to meet them as soon as they landed and take them out on the town. I took them to The Depot because a) it's new since they left and I think it's solid b) Brian loves midwest comfort food and c) I was not spending another night at Tickles (the gay piano bar. no, I'm serious -- that's the name of the bar).Anyway, wow did we have fun. It's so good to have them back in town, if even only for a few days. Nobody can make me laugh they way these two do.
Why look at that. It's Free Energy (again). Tonight was the fourth time I've seen them since March! And you know what? These boys bring it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Tonight they opened for Mates of State, whom I adore (but who sat in the dark, making Free Energy the photo of the day). Both bands are playing again tonight (Thursday) at the 400 Bar. But if you go? Take a fan and dress lightly. There's no AC in that joint, and I think I sweated out about five lbs. And speaking of that, let's hope the boys in the band eat a big hearty meal today. None of them can afford to drop any more weight. If you can't see them tonight, they'll be back in September with Titus Andronicus. Talk about a show you don't want to miss...Also, you can see the full show photos over here.
