Jamie and I went out with a bunch of friends tonight on a karaoke pub crawl. Let me clarify: We do not sing. We can play rock band / guitar hero until the cows come home. But we do not sing. We were there for moral support on Halloween. The catch was that we each had to come dressed as musicians. Jamie and I took the easy road and went as Jack and Meg White (ok, I took the easy road). This is Jamie in full costume. Too bad you can't see the red and white plaid pants he was wearing. With the white belt. I'll see if I can drum up some of those images later. But right now I have to hit the sack. Tonight was a lot of fun, but tomorrow is gonna hurt.

Possibly the happiest part of each day for Memphis is the arrival of the mail. Whatever junk mail we have, she gets to carry around in her mouth. For hours. And with the election coming up, we're getting a lot of junk mail from Mayor Rybak. Pretty high-quality stuff, too. It takes a lloooooonnnngg time for his mailers to dissolve from dog drool. Don't worry R.T., you've got her vote. She's your happiest constituent.

monsters of folk

Tonight we went to see Monsters of Folk play at the Orpheum. I wasn't sure how excited to be for this show. It featured two of my favorite artists (Conor Oberst and M. Ward), but the tickets were way more than what we normally pay for a show. And I had to get them through Ticketmaster, which I despise. And I think the album is good. But not great. So I went into this show not sure if I was gonna be happy or not.But man, I was thrilled. Not only did M. Ward blow me away with his mad guitar skillz again (and again and again), but they played a bunch of vintage Bright Eyes, some of which I had never seen live. This made it all worth while. And? They played for about three hours. It was more like a revue where they all played their old stuff as well as the new stuff. It was great. I left a happy, happy girl.(For non-fans of Monsters of Folk, above is Conor Oberst. You can see more photos here, since I had a hard time narrowing it down.)

I got another haircut with Anthony today. Look at how shiny that hair is! He straightened it for me today, which I would never have the patience to do.

It was gorgeous outside today, and the leaves were golden and lovely. I hope this nice weather sticks around just a little longer.

happy accident

Tonight I went to see The Raveonettes and The Black Angels at First Ave. I was actually surprised by how much I loved The Black Angels. I guess I can get into the droner rock when it's live (surprise, surprise). Anyway, I also got this shot of Sharin Foo, which I love. It almost looks like a painting to me, the way the light is saturating everything. I could never create this effect again. It was just a happy accident.

It was so wet and gray outside today that I decided to stay in and get stuff done around the house. Lots of picking up and laundry and making a big pot of chicken soup. But I did manage to catch a shot of this moth on the front door. And my tivo list is significantly smaller.

guitar p*rn

Today, for our anniversary, I got Jamie a new guitar. This is a picture of the same guitar, but with a different finish. We had to special order the finish that he wanted. But don't you worry, both versions have these beautiful knobs. When we get the actual guitar in the house, I'll show you the lovely pearl inlays. :)
