Can you believe I did it? A photo every single day of 2009. We ended the year last night with several stops, Mark Mallman at the Varsity being the last. Mallman has some sort of stunt each year at his New Year's show, and this year it was a keyboard solo while hanging upside down from the ceiling. He must have been like this for a few minutes -- I think I would have passed out. That man is a serious performer. You can see more shots from the show right here.Anyway, it was a fun night full of spectacular people watching, delicious food and even a minor celebrity sighting. And Jamie and I both had drunk college girls throwing themselves at us. Yes, you read that right. And yes, it was highly entertaining. Some of you have been asking me if my photo project will continue into 2010, and indeed it will. I'm going to be a little more lax about things though. I'll still post every day, but full concert spreads might take a day or two to get up instead of that night. And there might be more iPhone shots. But this has been far too fun to stop.I hope you all had a fantastic night, and here's to a restful day today. Cheers!
This is the snowman we built on Christmas night after I got off of work. We like the long noses in our family (right, Merlin?). I bet this snowman is with us until March. But that carrot? I bet it doesn't fare as well with all the squirrels in our neighborhood. You know what else? Only one more photo until last year's resolution of a photo a day is complete. Hell to the yeah.
Booooring. We have hit that time of year in Minneapolis, where it is too freaking cold to really do much outside (if you are sane, like me) or for any band in their right mind to come to town. So for the next 6 weeks or so, it seems like you will be stuck with abstracts like this or photos of local bands. Or dogs. It is the curse of living in the Great White North. It starts getting better at the end of January, but it will be slow until March. I'll have to really get creative. So yeah. This is the salt and pepper shaker from lunch today with our summer intern, Becky. SALT AND PEPPER SHAKERS. Oh my. I am so sorry.
I love type. I really do. I am such a geek that way. This is a box of old typesetter's type that a friend recently picked up for me. I don't really have any use for it, but it makes me happy.
Ick. We found a few fleas on Memphis. Yeah, it makes me itchy, too. So we have been vacuuming, laundering and bathing like crazy around here. This poor girl. She can't help it.
Tonight we were all over the place. We started out with a drink at 20.21 in the Walker as we had tickets to see the British TV advertising awards. We had gone last year, and loved it. This year? Not so much. The ads were dark and depressing and nothing I wanted to a) pay for and b) wait in line to see. After the show, we headed over to FujiYa for a delicious Japanese dinner, then to Dulono's where I killed Jamie at their Attack From Mars pinball game, and finally to Sauce. We hadn't been to Sauce since it opened, and tonight this local band, Lusurfer, was headlining. They are a "satanic surf band." Which apparently means they cover a lot of Black Sabbath songs in a surf fashion. The music wasn't very good, but the schtick was pretty funny. The stage was littered with smoke machines, skulls and candy canes, and the outfits and makeup were pretty good as well. At least I was able to get a photo out of it.
The snowstorm continued today, but it also rained a bit making it a heavy, wet mess. Merlin was a little annoyed by the wetness, as you can see here. But it was great for snowballs and snowmen :)
Jamie and I took the dogs to the park to run and play in the snow late this afternoon. We think there must have been about 8 inches by that point - it was hilarious watching the dogs trying to run in it. Anyway, this photo was an accident. See how the camera focused on the flakes, and kept Jamie out of focus? I like that. :)
