co exhibitions

I stopped by Co Exhibitions tonight on the way home from work to see the Permalesque show they have running. There was all sorts of interesting stuff -- photography, light shows, screen prints, a heavy metal disco ball... But this graffiti wall really sucked me in. Partially because I am such a complete typography geek, and partially because some folks from my twitter stream had signed the wall. Anyway, it's an interesting art show. Especially when you stop by at night this week and you're the only one in the room. Also? If you ask nicely they might sell you some delicious beef jerky.

the nose knows

Look at my sweetie Merlin's nose. Such a cutie. Sorry to give you another abstract image, but today was nothing but a dark drive into work, a dark drive home, a bowl of soup and a little television. Soooo... an abstract photo of my boy's nose is what you get. Maybe tomorrow will get a little more interesting around here. But during these dark winter days, I'm kinda liking the quiet.

hibernation

What a perfect Sunday. There was some sleeping in, lots of delicious coffee, great new music, catching up with friends on the telephone and a ton of reading. I don't think it gets much better than that. I wanted to share with you two great discoveries that I dove into today. The first is the Smith Westerns. A friend of mine had, um, loaned me a bunch of new music at the end of last week, and I hadn't had a chance to listen to it all until today. This was a very fun surprise, and at the top of the heap (along with the new Iron and Wine album). You can listen over here. And please ignore the *horrible* page design. The second find was an amazing travel and photo blog. I must attribute my buddy Margaret for sharing this find with me, and man did it suck me in. I read this blog for, uh, FOUR HOURS today. I read the entire thing (and you should to). It's written by a young couple who were just married in September and took six months off of work to travel the world. So far they have been to: France, England, Croatia, Montenegro, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Austria, Hungary, Ukraine, Hong Kong and Thailand. Their photos are *stunning,* as is their sense of adventure. Oh wait. I haven't given you the link yet, have I? Are you salivating? You should be. Here it is.And that pretty much has consumed my day. I am about to actually bathe (since it's SEVEN P.M.) and then make some home made soup. Then I will delve into magazines and more music before I come to the realization that tomorrow I go back to work.*The photo above was taken on my way up the stairs to find my slippers. That's about as much as I was willing to work today, but I thought it captured the mood pretty well.

saturday night

Tonight Jamie took me out to a wonderful dinner and then we headed over to an art opening where we ran into a ton of friends (fun!!) before we went to the Turf Club to watch Lazerbeak play (super fun!). Overall, a pretty great evening. This photo is of Stacy and Carl at the art show. Stacy and our buddy Betz were showing us that they can touch their noses with their tongues (no, I don't remember how we got there, and yes our friends are like KISS). I love it that while Stacy is demonstrating, Carl there is trying *so* hard to do the same.If you want to see some pictures from the Lazerbeak show, they are over here.

the current turns six
0121jmpsm.jpg

Six hours standing at First Avenue was too much tonight. And yes, that sound you hear? That's the sound of me whining because I'm getting old. This evening was the Current's sixth birthday party, and the city celebrated by a show at First Ave with Trampled by Turtles, Roma di Luna, Jeremy Messersmith, Brother Ali and Free Energy. Man, Free Energy just stole that set away from the rest and ripped it to shreds while rocking our face off. As one friend said during the performance, "If you don't like Free Energy live, then you don't like fun."Anyway, I chose this photo VERY quickly once I got home. I haven't even seen all of my shots from tonight yet, because right now I'm seeing double and am giving up on editing for the night and crawling off to bed. So here's your teaser shot, and I'll be back with the full take tomorrow.UPDATE: The photos are up over here. Enjoy!
