Our second box from the CSA arrived today, and since so many of you have asked what all it includes, I thought I would show you. Now, keep in mind that we split this box in half with a friend, so we're not eating ALL of this in a week. But we are eating half, which is still a ton. This week we got: blue potatoes, a large bag of Asian greens, broccoli, a large bunch of spinach, some russian banana fingerling potatoes, green garlic, purple and green kohlrabi, red leaf lettuce, red radishes, rosemary, scallions and strawberries. And the strawberries lasted about 10 minutes. Oh my, they were good.
At the very last moment today, Jamie scored us tickets (fancy schmancy tickets, mind you) to the Twins game. As in, our seats were PADDED, we had access to a seated dining area overlooking the ballpark, and there was even a bloody mary bar. And since the home team won, we got fireworks after the game as well. Bonus! In this photo, Morneau hit a single. I decided this evening that my favorite twin is Kubel, based solely on the fact that his "at bat" song is Sabotage by the Beastie Boys. My least favorite Twin would be Rauch because that neck tattoo of his is skeevey. Now, we all know that I like a man with ink. But this guy? Too gross.
Five. Days. Off. I started my mini-vacation tonight by cracking open some Strongbow and then walking the dogs down to DQ to split a Reese's Blizzard with my man. Some nights are just too wild to handle around the Plesser household.
Have I mentioned that I don't like flowers? But I do love color. I prefer crazy looking Dr. Seuss-like plants like this one. I'm still planning out the landscaping for the front yard, and this is the kind of stuff I'm leaning toward. I like stuff with crazy leaves. (Don't worry, I'm not using this exact plant in the yard. This is a colius, and it won't survive the winter -- it just lives on my porch in the summer.)
Jamie and I joined a CSA this summer, which means that we get a box full of vegetables every Thursday that we either need to eat through, or feel guilty as hell about when we throw it out. So the short story is that we are eating a TON of vegetables these days. This is one of the many salads from that particular box that was full of fresh butter lettuce, arugula, spring onions, spinach, garlic, blue potatoes, radishes and kohlrabi. We're like a couple of rabbits over here with all these veggies. Salads, soups, stir fries -- you name it, we're making it. Oh! But if anyone has any tips on the arugula, let me know. We have ways of eating a little, but I have a huge bag of it to get through before Thursday, and I'm a little stumped.
Another laaaazy Saturday afternoon... It was raining most of the day, and we stayed in and read. I finished up "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," which was pretty entertaining and the dogs spent the day getting belly rubs and napping. In other words, today was perfect.
Aaahhhhh, the lovely Neko Case. There are a few female performers that I have total girl crushes on, and Neko is one of them. Tonight she was wearing the coolest Iron Maiden vans. I want to say more about this concert and her band (you know, that one with AC Newman), but my blog has been BOMBARDED with spam (adult-site spam) and I'm trying to avoid all words that will lead to more of that crap. But the band name rhymes with the Blue Smornographers. And they put on one hell of a show. And tomorrow I will post more photos from the Smornographers. ;)UPDATE: You can see more photos from the show over here.
