delicious food!

Last month, I had a shoot with a local produce company, which was fun because unlike my normal restaurant food photography (which I still loooooove to do), this was shooting a bunch of food at a factory (with a wet floor), making it not look like a factory, and making things look artful while working in a giant refrigerated space (ohmygod my fingers got so cold!).First, let me say that I could not have done this without the amazing styling help of the wonderful and talented Lucy. She was polishing grapes, selecting the best looking cauliflower and setting up all that color and texture in just the right way. Plus, she's an angel to work with. We've been teaming up a lot lately (which I'll talk about more at a later date), and this was a super fun collaboration. But besides these pretty food shots, I also snapped some "behind the scenes" shots of the factory. You guys, I cannot express how cold it was in there. I was miserable after just an hour, and I now have so much more respect and love for the pre-cut watermelon I buy at the grocery store. Below are some of those images. Two quick internet shares before I head into the studio for the day!+ If you have one of these magical instant pots, this beef stew looks dang tasty.+ I cannot get enough of this music right now.

almost forgotten...
LJP_7451.jpg

Some times (many times), I do a shoot for a company and I promise not to post any images until they are released to the public. And some times (many times) it takes months and months until they go live, and by then I have completely forgotten to share the final images with you guys. And that's what happened here. This was one of my very favorite shoots last year. It involved a fashion designer, wonderful natural light, beautiful clothes and a vintage airstream trailer (!!!). As you can imagine, it was an absolute dream. And it went live last fall and I had forgotten all about it. But! This weekend, I remembered! So here you are.I've included some of my favorite shots below, and you can read more about the project at the live site for Scotch over here. The short story is that this fashion designer rehabbed an old airstream trailer into a design studio and then took it out on a long road trip to NYC with her dog. She worked each day on her next collection while being inspired by the parks she stayed in. What a dream! Also, if you're curious about her designs, here is her site. And for your internet shares of the day:+ One of my biggest fears.+ A seal hugging a stuffed seal. I promise it will make you smile.+ The only workout I could probably stick with.+ I had no idea Keanu had been through so much.+ The most beautiful Jello I've ever seen.

My dear, sweet husband was in Texas for SXSW this last week, which left me as a single mom for much of the time. So forgive me that most of my images are of The Spawn, but also, can you even believe how big he's getting? Because I can't.For the record, Ezra's head is too big for the bike helmet we bought him last year. RIDICULOUS. That thing was adjustable! So here he is wearing mine before heading out on his strider bike.Watching Thomas the Train. I am a spectacular parent. Then it snowed! So we put on our snow pants and went outside to shovel!I had a shoot last week at a candle company (it was amazing!) and in the back was an enormous store room filled with floor-to-ceiling shelves of containers like this to pour candles in. I was mesmerized. And we'll end with bath time. Ezra hates it when we pour water on his head to wash his hair, so last night I suggested that maybe he could get his hair wet on his own. Voila! Also, in this photo I believe he's saying, "Mamma! My swimming!"For your internet shares today:+ Love+ War (That first image. Oof.)

cuteness overload

I think I've mentioned that I've had several shoots the last few weeks at some amazing elementary schools around the metro area.I'm doing a pro-bono project right now for an organization that believes in equity among schools. When the project is released, I'll go into more detail (and show more photos!), but for now, I couldn't resist this teaser image.I'm generally shooting candids in the classrooms, but as many of you know, kids love to grin at the camera. And who can possibly resist images like this one?Not much on the internet today, just this one article on how to make the best salads for work. Note to self: Salt the lettuce!

Yesterday I photographed head shots for a local company in town -- something I do frequently. I like this work because I meet all sorts of fun people, and the explorer in me loves learning about the variety of companies in town and what they create. That said, taking photos of people in the same manner and in the same location(s) for a day can get a bit monotonous, and while I of course love showing people how beautiful they all are, it's often not the work that gets my creativity pumping. But yesterday was different.Everyone at this company was so varied, and that gorgeous woman up there was such a fun treat with her haircut (I have coveted that hairdo since seeing something similar on Scarlett Johansson) and her amazing lip color and then that awesome necklace. Anyway, I just had to share this image. For your internet share today, Target has a new line of clothes out called Who What Wear. I bought a sweater a few months back from this line and I LOVE IT. So of course now here are all of the things I want to get. And no, Target is not paying me for this post. I wish they would, though!

  1. A yellow moto jacket? Yes. I think I need that.
  2. I don't wear skirts for work anymore because of all the squatting and climbing etc, but if I did? I would wear this one. Also? The sweater she's wearing is the one I bought.
  3. I love this tiny purse.
  4. This sweater is cut just like the yellow floral one I bought earlier but it's black and white stripes. So it works with my daily uniform.
  5. Black denim capris? Oh just take my money.
watching families grow
13w-1.jpg

I have some clients that hire me once every two to three years (which is fine), some who hire me once in their lifetimes (which is fine), many who hire me once every year (which is GREAT!) and some who hire me 3-4 times each year (which is a DREAM). These kids up there? Their family is one of those that I get to see several times each year, and I LOVE IT.I first photographed the eldest child when she was 3 mos. old, and I've seen her at least twice a year ever since. She is only one month older than Ezra, and it is so fun to just pop in and see how much she is growing and talking and moving, and I just have a blast with these guys. Then her little brother was born 6 mos. ago, and now I get to watch him grow up as well!I just wanted to share a few images from our most recent shoot -- their family is so fun and so full of love. It brings me such joy to work with them over and over again. For your internet shares of the day:+ I made this for dinner last night, and it was delicious. But it made about 3 times more than I needed, so we froze half. A good one for those who want to feed a lot of people for not much money...+ See how much has changed since the day you were born -- fascinating!+ I make a lot of open faced sandwiches for lunch, so these recipes called out to me. My favorite is toast + smashed avocado + scrambled egg + feta sprinkles. Yum!

oh those baby faces
05w-2.jpg

This was one of my adorable subjects from last week in Duluth. Is this kid a cutie pie or what?I love just getting babies in good light and shooting all the expressions they make after digesting a good meal. Priceless. How was your weekend? I was a single parent as Jamie went to SXSW (lucky dog). While I was failing at potty training the kid, Jamie was seeing Joe Biden speak. One of us was the winner here... But I still had a fantastic time with Ezra. We attended parties and cooked meals and watched a movie with fresh popcorn, we went sledding in the snow, I taught him how to shovel and we went out to breakfast with friends. It was a fantastic weekend (despite the failed potty training moments). For your internet shares today:+ Some of my photos for 3M have been posted -- I'm putting them here in case you're curious what that work is about (two different links in there).+ This guy is found to be a LITERAL NAZI COMMANDER and his relatives say that the AP is fake news. Fucking goddamn president setting the table for all sorts of racist idiots.+ But this video of a happy dog having fun will make you feel better. Make sure you watch until the end -- the slow-motion highlights are the best.

Phone It In Friday ~ A new series (maybe)
IMG_0008w.jpg

Hello! And welcome to Phone It In Friday!I am notoriously horrible about taking photos with my iPhone because, well, I always have my really nice and expensive camera on me. But then there are a few times I don't! And I was thinking on my drive up to Duluth this week, that maybe I should just start snapping photos with my phone as the week happens and then give you a roundup on Fridays. What I like about this is that everyone has this same capability! And I'm not using any fancy photoshop work on the images, so these are all photos that you, too can take.Since I thought of this in the afternoon on Monday, I don't have as many images this week as I hope to have in the future, but I hope you enjoy the idea. It was fun and really stretched my creativity! Hopefully I'll have more variety next week! Here are some internet shares for the day -- I hope you all have a spectacular weekend!+ Tater tot waffles? YES, PLEASE. But I'd use different toppings...+ One more reason I could never live in Mississippi.+ Gwenyth Paltrow's Tribeca home is for sale. Wow. That's white.
