basement remodel // part three

05sm1.jpg

01smOh hey there! Yes, I know I have owed you the rest of my basement remodel photos for at least a month or so... But I was waiting on furniture to be delivered and to find the right rug etc etc etc. I finally have it all ready to go (just in time for the folks who arrive tomorrow!), so I thought I'd give you a sneak peek.My goal for this part of the basement was to serve as both a waiting area/lobby for my photo clients as well as guest quarters for visiting friends and relatives. I realize we opted not to put in an egress window (the two windows you see above are in the driveway, so that would not have worked), and yes, our inspector was clear to tell us he thought we were inviting someone to die in a fire in our basement. Thanks, buddy.Anyway, more photos below! The only thing I think I'd change up is maybe a larger TV... but Jamie bought this one the day he was laid off (while he still had the Best Buy discount), so we're not gonna get a better deal, and I guess it will work out just fine. And speaking of! For those who are curious, he is really enjoying the new gig and the much welcome work/life balance that has come with it. Perfect timing.02smSo I shot this so you could see the relationship between the bathroom and the rest of the room. The credenza piece I got at West Elm and I LOVE it. I did not love that it took almost a month to deliver something they had in stock. But I did not have to assemble it and I got a crazy good deal on it (thank you  Memorial Day sale!), so we're all happy. The rug I picked up at Target a few weeks back (another sale!). I like how it ties the couch in with the rest of the room.03smOK, so I'll have Jamie move those records closer to the sofa tonight. They are H.E.A.V.Y., otherwise I would have done it before snapping the photo. So imagine there is no lamp cord, mmmkay? The sofa is from Room and Board and after 6 weeks of patience, we finally found the color and the size and the style that we wanted at the outlet center. Are you seeing a theme here? Everything had to be gotten on sale. While I love expensive furniture, I refuse to pay full price.Warning: This sofa picks up lint and dog hair LIKE CRAZY. The dogs are not allowed anywhere near this sofa, and we still use the lint brush on it once a week. Had I known this, I might have opted for a different fabric, but I really had no idea (and when you're shopping for stuff at the outlet, you forgo options for price). And I still love the sofa like crazy, so whatever. I'll just keep lint rollers in the credenza.04smBack to the credenza. I love those legs.05smOK, let's talk about this bed, shall we? This alcove was a total puzzle in the remodel. People thought we should make it a closet, but believe it or not, we are pretty good on storage space in this house (it's the walk-up attic that's a life saver). And especially after I found out we were apparently breeding, we needed a spot for guests. Also? Wouldn't this be awesome for sleepovers? So I had our contractor build this bed into the space. It is the exact size of a full mattress... minus 2 inches of length. But! Let me share this little nugget with you! The Original Mattress Factory in the Twin Cities will take any of their existing mattresses and trim it down to any size for you for an additional fifty bucks! Not bad! So that's what we did. All of our bedding is a touch big, but that's not a deal breaker. And? See those drawers down there? They go way back and offer great storage. And? Behind those drawers is more storage! If you take off the mattress, the top of the bed pops off and reveals our holiday decorations. Pretty rad, if I do say so myself. So that's it! That's the third part of the basement remodel. The last part is the laundry room... which is fine. No great shakes. I might show it to you if anyone is interested, but really, you've already seen the best parts of this remodel (the studio and the bathroom, if you remember). For your internet share of the day, I dream of attending a dinner party in one of these spots. Or having a wedding dinner like this. Right? Someone organize and pay for this and then include me on the guest list pretty please!
