surf's up in superior
So! Who wants to go get in the waters of Lake Superior in February?Yesterday, after lunch, Nyberg and I were driving to one of my favorite spots on the North Shore, and when we arrived we were *stunned* to find a group of surfers there! Six or seven of them were out of the water, warming up in their cars, peeing in the woods or packing their gear back into their trucks. But this lone surfer was still out in the water, waiting for a few final swells. One thing I want to point out is the water on the horizon. See how it looks... bumpy? Choppy? It was like that all day. I don't know if it's the cold that makes the horizon look rough (like a mirage?), but I've never seen that before. This surfer was packing up his gear when we arrived, and we talked to him for a bit. He'd been out in the water for about 3 hours (!!) and he said it wasn't too cold -- about 38 degrees in the lake, he would have guessed. He'd been out surfing for four of the last seven days. Oh, and for those wondering, it was about 11 degrees above water yesterday (and a touch windy).Yeah, you won't catch me in that water. But you might catch me back there taking more photos... :)For your internet share of the day, I have mixed feelings on this wedding shoot in the rubble of Syria, but holy cow does it give me even more sympathy for those refugees fleeing their homeland. What a mess. And on a lighter note, this formula to determine how tall your kids will be has Ezra at 6'2. We'll see...
