metric cures everything
02w-2.jpg

02wThis weekend, Jamie and I made it out to a block party downtown where Metric was playing. It was SO much fun! We started the night with sushi and ended the evening by unexpectedly running into a bunch of our friends. Events like this in perfect Minnesota weather just make life seem so surreal at times.Anyway, I wanted to share the rest of my photos with you from the show. I wasn't shooting for any publication, but rather just for myself that night. And I probably took too many photos of Emily (the lead singer), but she is so magnetic and fun to photograph that I could not resist. I hope you enjoy the images over here! And for your internet shares of the day:+ While I do love watching the Olympics, this video on how Americans see the games totally cracked me up.+ I will be planning a date night around this movie. HOW COME I AM ONLY LEARNING ABOUT IT NOW?+ I was having a rough morning today, and a dear friend sent me this link. And I think I'll just bookmark it forever to cheer myself up.

monday at the madhouse ~ stuffed full!
04w-1.jpg

07wWe had an amazing week full of concerts and farm visits and delicious Mexican food, and so many friends. These times make us feel so blessed to have such full and fun lives! But I only brought my camera a few places (which might have been a mistake, but eh, whatever). The big thing I wish I would have gotten better photos of was when we finally took Ezra to see some live music! By some fluke, after our farm visit he napped until 5, which meant we could keep him up a little later than usual on a Friday night (rarity!). So we hauled him down to the lake to watch Koo Koo Kangaroo perform, and it was a blast. But since it was completely unplanned, I didn't bring my camera. D'oh!However, I think there are plenty of fun farm images to make up for it. Enjoy!05w 04w 06w 01w 02w 09w 08w 03wIMG_8782w 11w 10wAnd lastly, Nyberg was here on Sunday when the kid woke up from his nap and he wanted her to read him a book. I die of the cuteness.

rainy and dark
01w.jpg

01wWe had a dark and stormy morning yesterday (which hopefully pushed the heat out of town for the weekend) and I grabbed my camera to capture a few shots of the yard and garden in the rain. The tomatoes I planted have been divine this year -- I think next year I might do up to half the garden in just tomatoes! They are that good. Anyway, each night, I bring in the ripe ones and we have been feasting on delicious caprese salads using those tomatoes and the basil I'm growing -- which is also going nuts. Eating the food you grow? Pretty awesome.02wHere is the said basil. This is from one plant!03w 04w 05wFor your internet shares of the day:+ I think people who want to live in tiny houses on a permanent basis are completely nuts. However, I would be interested in one for a cabin-type situation. And because I am completely rustic and one with nature, this is the "cabin" I would prefer. Who's with me?+ Did you hear that Conor Oberst has a new solo album coming out? And he's touring? And there are no Minneapolis dates yet? Don't worry. Just holding my breath over here.

the mighty mississippi
0804mississippiw.jpg

0804mississippiwLast week we took Ezra down to the Mill City Farmer's Market (one of my favorites in town), and afterward we walked across the Mississippi River on the Stone Arch Bridge. The river is really high (and rough) right now, and I shot this image of it rushing below the bridge. But what I liked best, was that when I flipped it to a black and white image, it resembles marble to me. A fun optical illusion. Also, am I aware that I am posting a ton of black and white water photos this year? Yes. Yes I am. But do I love them anyway? Absolutely. Maybe I should frame them all and hang them in one room of the house...Anyway, today it's supposed to rain and (hopefully) cool off this ultra muggy and miserable heat we've been having. Finger's crossed! In the meantime, your internet shares:+ A refresher on how to feel and look awesome in the heat (yes I've posted it before, yes I think it's worth it).+ An interesting look at the styling of food photography (you know I love stuff like this...).+ Amazon shopping tricks! I shop on Amazon *at least* once a week, and I didn't know many of these!+ This site has a minute-by-minute prediction of who will win the election. I am hooked.

behind the scenes
LJP_7565w.jpg

LJP_7565wLast week I was hired to photograph a local fashion designer right before she takes off on an amazing adventure. She has rebuilt this cool-as-shit airstream trailer and is hitting the road for travel, nature and inspiration. The airstream is loaded with sewing machines and work tables (and a kitchen, bed and bathroom), and she plans on designing collections while she's out in the world.Oh, how I adore this idea!I have some really fun and amazing shots from this shoot that my client owns exclusive rights to, but as soon as they are made public, I'll be sure to share them with you.In the meantime, here are a few behind-the-scenes photos that I liked.I cannot tell you how inspiring it is for me to see other creative people and how they work amidst their own inspiration. It's like fuel for my brain. So I loved, loved, loved seeing the walls and walls of inspiring fashion, sketches and fabrics everywhere.Such a fantastic assignment.LJP_7818wAnd for your internet shares of the day:+ Did you hear about how flossing does no good? Here's a story on why you should probably keep it up. Confession: I floss at night and after popcorn, meat and berries with seeds. I have never understood why to floss in the morning. My yogurt does not get stuck in my teeth. I am a heathen.+ This camera is adorable.+ Do you love Stringer Bell? You're welcome.+ Just a reminder of restaurant manners.

music and movies at the park
LJP_8145w.jpg

LJP_8145wLast night, I was lucky enough to get hired to photograph The Walker's Music and Movies in the park series. It was the first night of the event, and the musician was Grant Hart (who you might know from this band) and the movie was Hard Days Night (you know, starring this band). This set was particularly fun to photograph because a local artist had created a set to surround Mr. Hart, and it was super playful and fun.I really love these kinds of events in the city because 1) they are free and 2) the crowds are so fun and diverse (not just by race, but age as well). And? People bring their dogs. And puppies. Which you can see below.LJP_8901wLJP_8041wLJP_8524wFor your internet shares of the day:+ I am thinking of trying this 7 minute workout. Anyone out there done it before?+ I love these 23 ways to treat yourself without buying or eating anything.+ I want to make this salad for dinner RIGHT NOW.

monday at the madhouse ~ dogs, beaches and bouncing on the bed
22w-1.jpg

19wThese weeks... they are far too short in the summertime. The beaches are fantastic, the dog walks are amazing and the time with friends is never enough. We made some pretty great memories again this week. And trust me, when I think back to this winter? All I can do is be grateful for our health and being well enough to get out and do so much. Enjoy the photos.01wEzra and I had a visit to my friend Leah's this week to spend some time with her little boy (above) and, of course, Diggs (below).10w 11wEzra is flat out SMITTEN with this dog. It is beyond adorable.12wWe met up with our friends Tom and Lora this weekend as well and had breakfast and beach time over at Lake Harriet. They brought the donuts and we brought the sand toys. That Aurora (in the background) is always wearing the cutest stuff.13wAlso, the rec department was teaching their sailing lessons out on the lake that morning, and it was super fun to watch.14wIs that Aurora adorable or WHAT?15wThen Ezra started the hilarious game of throwing buckets of lake water at mom while I tried to dodge them. Look at the glee on his face. I managed to stay dry, but while refilling his bucket, the kid fell right into the drink and since we forgot backup clothes (bad parents) he had to ride home in the stroller in only a diaper. Being as he fell fast asleep, I don't think he minded a bit.17wHere he is pre-nap noshing on a donut hole, enjoying the breeze.18wWhen Ezra wakes up after his nap in a good mood, he loves to scream and jump on the bed like some sort of crib warrior. Here it is in full effect.20wOh yeah. That's fun.21wJamie snapped this shot of us making art on the sidewalk this weekend.22wAnd I absolutley adore this photo of Ezra sitting with Magda in her corner of the yard. That right there? Those are my kids.

resolutions
0728calligraphy.jpg

0728calligraphyOne of my New Year's resolutions (for the past two years) has been to improve my handwriting. I think it's mildly ridiculous that for someone who loves typography as much as I do, that I don't work more on my own personal typography, right? But whenever I'm writing something, I find myself in such a hurry, and it's hard to put much thought into the letter forms when that is the case.So last night I took a calligraphy class. Not only might it improve how I think about letter forms, but I love stretching other sides of my brain. You guys, it was SO MUCH FUN!!!! I had a blast, and if I didn't have a business to run or a child or a dog, I would probably find myself working on this for several hours each day!But the best part about the class was that you got to keep all the supplies, and now I can practice when I find the time. The photos above were taken at the class from my phone. The top image was before we started (lovely workspace, no?) and then next to that are my first markings with the pen. The bottom left corner was my own name, done after about 2 hours of learning (a lot to be improved, but fun nonetheless) and the last shot in the bottom right is an envelope that our instructor had written. In other words, that's the inspiration.I hope I can find a little time this weekend to steal away and practice some lettering. What will you do with your pockets of free time this weekend? For your internet shares today:+ They found a photo of Prince from when he was 10 years old and HE IS SMIRKING THEN LIKE HE DID NOW. It's amazing.+ These are the most beautiful tarot cards. My mom used to take me to have them read when I was a kid.+Haley Bonar, one of my favorite local musicians who also looks like my grandmother did when she was young, has a new album out and I've loved listening to it today
