adopt don't shop

Well look at sweet Magda up there! This girl has been by my side a lot this week as I'm fighting off some sort of... nobody knows. I've consulted three doctors in the last 24 hours and no one has a diagnosis for me, but I did get some antibiotics so hopefully the pressure in my head, face, jaw, ear, eyes and teeth lets up soon, eh? In the meantime, I've had a lot of couch time and a lot of snuggles from my girl Magda. And today is the day to celebrate her, because it's National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day! Which we all know I support one thousand percent. This year, like last, I'm celebrating / pushing shelter dogs by running my Adopt a Stray in May project! This means that you can check back here throughout the month for photos and profiles of adorable rescue dogs in the Twin Cities who are looking for their permanent homes! These dogs are so lovable -- they just need someone to give them all a chance..⁣. So maybe you should be that person? At the least, you can admire how cute they are. And in the meantime, you can gaze at sweet Magda up there.

on the other side of the lens

Lucy and I have been using this "slow time" (haha) to make a few studio improvements, and the main one being a rolling wall with two sides. One side is wallpapered (it is SO PRETTY) and the other side Lucy painted this fabulous dark green. We spent yesterday practicing some lighting techniques with the new gear, and I loved these portraits Lucy shot of me, so I thought I'd share them, since you don't get to see my face around these parts very often. And for your internet shares of the day:+ Super cool mid-century modern playgrounds.+ How to go greener in the kitchen. I've moved away from paper towels and paper napkins, but clearly I have so much more to do...+ Traveling abroad with kids.

sweet baby in the studio

post by leslie

This sweet 3 month old came into the studio last week for some shots, and we had so much fun. I don't get to photograph a ton of babies in the studio (usually I go to their homes), so it was really fun to try out new things. And this baby was so smiley! Such a blast! For your internet shares of the day:+ I'm in awe of the architecture of this museum in Qatar.+ The making of salt. Yum.+ Well obviously I adore this.

a different, softer kind of baby!

So yesterday was pretty fantastic, eh? Someone dropped by the studio with a SHELTIE PUPPY! For those of you that don't know, I have a soft spot for both collies and shelties as I've owned both, and this little guy did not disappoint.I have been so slammed with work this week that I'm going to have to skip the internet shares of the day as I don't have time to find them (too many client photos to process). But I hope you all have an amazing weekend ahead. It's supposed to be sunny and 72 here in Minnesota and you guys? WE ARE READY FOR IT.

growing families

post by leslie

One thing that I've been working more on is capturing the connection of siblings right from the start, which is why I selected that photo up there. Are you getting tired of all the families? It's ok. I know it's been quite a run. But don't worry, May is coming, and with that? ALL THE RESCUE DOGS! I'm just getting the babies out of my system! So buckle up, because you only have a few weeks left! For your internet shares of the day:+ I would LOVE THESE SHOES. My birthday is about 8 weeks away. Plan accordingly. Group gifts are wonderful. I'm a size 11.+ Something inspiring. I love it when kids are passionate.+ I love this beautiful art project.

more happy babies

And we had ANOTHER happy baby in the studio last weekend! Just look at those smiles! This kiddo loved being here and man-oh-man did she adore her big brother. I usually prefer photographing small kids in their own homes, but last weekend convinced me that the studio is fantastic as well. And for your internet shares of the day:+ Why the snow was brown yesterday.+ Great patio deals from Target.+ Fantastic gift for kids who love drawing with chalk!

april blizzard

So it snowed last night. And it really wasn't that big of a deal -- just a couple of inches. And we might get an inch today.Except that THEY CANCELLED SCHOOL. I mean, seriously, I am thinking the person that makes those decisions just moved here from Arizona. Wuss. But the drive in sure was pretty! Here are a few snaps I took on my way into the studio.
