a love letter to the north

A few weeks ago, as I mentioned, we picked up Ezra from his last day of school and headed north. There is such a special feeling about driving out of the city and into the woods. The sounds of the frogs and birds and wind through the pines is so relaxing on its own. We spent so much time laying on the dock just watching the fish below or taking slow boat rides on the lake, looking for loons and watching eagles and hawks hunt for dinner. It truly is so magical.I made this video not to capture so much of what we did that weekend, but more of how it feels to be there. I hope you enjoy it!

lazlo!

post by leslie

I got to photograph an adorable little guy named Lazlo last week and I loved every minute of it! What a FANTASTIC name! I hadn't heard it since this, but whenever I tell people that, they look at me like I'm ancient, so if you get that clip, welcome to my world! (And wasn't that movie fantastic?)I'm traveling this week, so blog posts will be sporadic, but I promise fun stuff when I return!

the best gift

post by leslie

Last month, I had the pleasure of doing a secret session for a Father's Day gift. THESE ARE THE BEST!As you can imagine, I am a HUGE fan of surprise photos as gifts, but ESPECIALLY when they involve small children and dogs! So this mom brought in these two hooligans for their session, and we had a ton of fun. Aren't they adorable?

morning sessions

post by leslie

Now that warmer temperatures and dry weather has finally arrived, I'm back to family sessions outdoors -- and what a joy it is!This session was from last week at a new spot -- the community hops garden in South Minneapolis. Isn't it gorgeous in that light? We had so much fun, and I loved little Ingrid's rainbow dress!

a weekend away

post by leslie

Since I worked that gorgeous wedding that posted yesterday on Memorial Day weekend, we booked a cabin up north for the following weekend so we could have some much-needed family time. And that was the BEST. DECISION. EVER.This was the spot I found (bravo!), and it was perfect. We spent mornings on the dock watching fish or reading on the beach or working out in the screened-in porch watching cranes fish for breakfast. We took many pontoon boat rides, had picnics outdoors, roasted marshmallows and watched eagles hunt. We heard the wind through the pines and the loons calling across the lake. It was the best.Plus, the cabin is actually TWO cabins on one property, so our friend Sharon rented the other one. It was so fun!I also took some video footage, which I'm hoping to put together this summer (time permitting). But in the meantime, here are a few stills from the vacation. Ezra played mini golf for the first time and LOVED it, so there will be more of that in the future for sure!

Robin and Tom

post by leslie

You guys, I had the most amazing wedding last month. Lucy and I were *thrilled* to photograph Tom and Robin getting married at Big Stone (my favorite mini golf course!). These two had the best party and the best color and the best decorations. And the bride made EVERYTHING! It was fantastic. And? These two are about to be on television! They are both contestants on Holy Moly, which debuts on ABC on my birthday. I can't wait to see them compete -- doesn't it look hilarious? Please scroll through. You have GOT to see her shoes.

magic hour

post by leslie

A few weeks back I had a session for Magic Hour. What's that, you ask? Magic Hour is this amazing organization I volunteer for that pairs photographers with families whose lives are being disrupted by cancer to offer free family photography sessions and prints. Obviously, I think these photos are important in EVERYONE's lives, but when a family is affected by serious illness, capturing that love becomes even more important. This family was so wonderful, and we had such an amazing evening. If you are a photographer anywhere in the US, and you would be interested in donating sessions in your area, please reach out to the organization. I promise you won't regret it.
