I always take Halloween off (THANK GOD), and this year was no exception. I woke up just damn thrilled that I had a full day ahead of me with no work, but enough time to catch up on things I needed to get done around the house (shopping, cleaning, groceries, decorating the front porch etc etc). It was *amazing.* One of my stops was at Hunt and Gather, one of my favorite antique shops in the Twin Cities. I was there looking for a metal cabinet for some of my computer equipment, but instead I found three bear skin rugs! I didn't buy any, but they were fun to photograph :)
Today I got to go back to school for a class presentation. My own class doesn't start back up until mid-January, but I was talking to a friend's class about my career and my journalism background. Judging from the nice emails and tweets I got from the class afterward, I clearly fooled them all and I have a future leading cults or something. But seriously, it was really fun to be working with the students again -- I love all of their enthusiasm! And you guys? Campus is so gorgeous right now! All the fall color and the ivy? It was lovely.I also had my sites on seeing The Rural Alberta Advantage tonight, but my coverage plans fell through, and now I'm cozied up on the couch with my man watching terrible episodes of CSI. And it is glorious.
It's finally soup season again! Tonight I made an enormous pot of chicken tortilla soup for the week after a long day of photo work. And that was the extent of my day. Oh... except for my big announcement!I'm having an art show on Sunday, December 2 and you all should come! It's going to be at one of my favorite bars in town, Republic. I'm going to be showing some of my favorite concert photos from local bands, and there's going to be a performance by Crescent Moon is in Big Trouble -- which is a rap group that blew me away at their show last December. If you want more information, look (and RSVP) over here. Exciting!
This morning I got up in the dark and headed over to Lake Harriet to shoot this engagement session while the sun came up. Oh man, it was lovely! There was frost all over the ground and it was so quiet and we saw FOUR DEER! And this shot looks a little... "glowy," right? That's because my breath kept fogging up the lens a touch. But I kinda like it -- for some reason you get how chilly it was.
I had brunch with my buddy Stacy this morning and then headed off for some errands at the hardware store. When I arrived, there were llamas! At the hardware store! I mean, my hardware store is awesome in that it always has Otto the dog in it, but llamas? Holy moly! So, of course, I approached to take a photo. The owner of the llamas told me that it was perfectly fine to have photos with the animals. I tried to explain that I merely wanted photos *of* the llamas, not with them, but he literally TOOK THE CAMERA FROM ME and told me to please wrap my arms around each animal for the photo. I was so stunned! He took my camera and started art directing me! But he was a sweet old man, and who was I to argue? So that's why a) I'm in the photo and b) why it's out of focus. :)
I'm still smiling. Tonight's P.O.S. album release party was so much fun. Lots of great music, lots of dancing and just a super happy vibe at a sold-out First Ave. I posted more photos over here. I'm crawling off to bed with a sleepy grin on my face... again. Damn, I love this town.
This morning I was driving into work in the rain. A few hours later? Yup! Snow! I looked out the window at work and almost squealed in excitement. My coworkers? They are not so excited. In fact, they might even be considered a touch jaded on the topic. Clearly they did not live in Miami for two summers.Anyway, I ran outside and snapped a few quick shots. I know it wasn't the big fluffy flakes that I normally try to capture for you guys, but the first snow is always pretty special to me.Also today? I ripped up a corner of carpet in what will soon become my new office. I haven't had the chance to redecorate a room for myself in a very long time, and we'll just say that with Pinterest around, I am extremely excited. EXTREMELY EXCITED. You can see a bunch of my inspiration over here.
