Honestly, I'm kinda surprised I'm even awake to write this post. I took *three* separate naps today -- all longer than an hour. It's like now that my brain knows the semester is almost finished and I don't need to write any more lectures, I'm catching up for the last four months.I was, however, awake long enough to run a few errands with Jamie, and I shot these tulips when we were at Trader Joe's. Pretty, no?
Today was one of our favorite days of the year: Record Store Day! For those of you who are unfamiliar, many labels put out exclusives or special editions in very limited quantities to sell at independent record stores across the nation. The stores, expecting a larger-than-usual turnout, have live music all day, along with food options and other fun activities. This photo was taken at Treehouse Records in Minneapolis. I dream of having a room full of walls of records like this. Or books. I'm not sure what it is, but that aesthetic and texture is very comforting to me. Anyway, if you want to see more fun photos from the five music shops I hit up today (trust me, you do), then take a look over here
Of all the new music I've gotten lately (which is a ton), Tanlines have one of my most listened to albums. They remind me of a mix between Handsome Furs, Tears for Fears and Depeche Mode, and they make me very happy (and they make me dance). So I was thrilled to shoot them tonight as they put on a *stellar* show over at the Entry. Also tonight, I was shooting the concert in the Mainroom (Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapels) at the same time. Remember in Harry Potter when Hermoine has that time changer thingy around her neck? Tonight I wished I had one of those. OK, nerd moment overI am way too tired to post all of these images tonight, but I'll get them up soon, I promise. Right now I gotta hit the sack because tomorrow is Record Store Day! Can't wait to get out there and see all my people!
This morning poor Jamie had to wake up around 5 am to catch a flight to Chicago (which he's already back from -- corporate life is weird). And sadly, I could not get back to sleep. I laid in bed in the dark for 2.5 hours wishing I could sleep, but alas, nada. So I took this photo, and kept it blurry because that's about how I was feeling. In fact, now that my work day is over, I'm still feeling blurry. I think this night calls for some Buffy reruns and turning in early.
Last night I checked the weather, and today was supposed to be 48 degrees and cloudy. Um... WRONG. Today was in the 60s and sunny and gorgeous. This tree caught my attention while on campus -- pretty, no? Oh yeah... I'm only on campus for two more weeks! Kinda weird to be looking forward to summer vacation again.
See this bush? Yeah, it's dead. Sigh. This was one of a pair that we planted in our garden three years ago, and it just didn't survive this winter. I don't know if it didn't get enough water (much less snow) or what, but the other one is flourishing, and this one is not. Now, before any of you tell me that it just looks sick and not quite dead, let me tell you that a simple touch of the branch and all the needles fall to the ground. In fact, this damage? This is just from last night's wind. So we're sure it's a goner.Now... what to replace it with... This is the fun part of gardening. The keeping stuff alive is much more monotonous (obviously, I'm not as good at it, either).
Tonight I mosied over to First Ave to catch Cults. I've been a touch under the weather lately, and I was warm and cozy at home before the show. It took a *lot* of motivation to tear me off the couch with my man and my pups. But alas, it was good because this band is so new that after playing every song they had ever recorded (plus a new track), the show was done in about 40 minutes. Normally, I find that annoying. Tonight? Bliss.Photographically, it was a bit of a dud to shoot because it was so dark up on stage. But if you're curious, the rest of the photos are up here. Enjoy!
