asleep on the job

And you should hear her snore. Cutie.Today I got home from class around noon and spent this day working on another lecture. This one was far more interesting though because I'm going to talk about the ethics of using photoshop and what is acceptable (ethically). This should be a good discussion considering all the attention this topic is getting in Europe right now and the extreme uses of the program to make women beyond "perfect" by companies such as Ralph Lauren. If you don't think you have an opinion on this, go look at these images and then get back to me.

gettin' some culture
0212miasm.jpg

What an awesome Sunday. We slept in, had a delicious breakfast and went to the art museum. Unbeknownst to us, it was "Family Day." Which means there were about TEN THOUSAND CHILDREN running around the place. It was absolutely exhausting. But still, we enjoyed the museum. Then we came home and made the most delicious red curry and watched Moneyball. I kept hearing all year about how great this movie was and how it wasn't really about baseball (I'm not a huge baseball fan -- sorry Dad!). So the movie is good, don't get me wrong. But it is totally about baseball. Like, not like "The Natural" feel good baseball, but as in the statisticians/trading part of the sport. In other words, I had to just keep hammering Jamie with questions.Overall though? A great day.

oh, if only you could smell this

I spent this afternoon over at Spruce photographing them doing prep for Valentine's Day (it's a pretty big holiday for florists, in case you were unaware). My favorite thing about this shop is their wide variety of air plants and succulents. You can get a feel for the full shop in my blog post over at Rivets and Roses. Pretty, pretty plants, I tell you.

heartless bastards
02.jpg

Aaaaahhh, back at First Avenue where I belong. Tonight we checked out Heartless Bastards who we have heard nothing but wonderful things about from all of our critic friends. To be honest, I thought they sounded great live, but I wish they would have loosened up on stage a bit more. I like to see my musicians dance a little and have some fun.We only stayed for maybe 10 songs (they played a 2-hour set and then an encore, according to my twitter friends), and then we split. It wasn't that we weren't enjoying the music, but I am coming down with some sort of cold and I can feel it in my head, and I know how valuable sleep is at the onset of illness. Look at me, acting like a responsible adult and all that.Well, um, I also knew I needed my rest because I really don't want to miss the Vicious Vicious show tomorrow nightIf you want to see more photos from the (start of the) show, they are up here. Enjoy!SIDENOTE: I keep forgetting to mention that I'm giving away free photography to ONE wedding this year! And you don't even have to live in Minnesota to win. So if you are getting married, or you know someone who is, please go and enter the contest. All you need to know is over here.

112 eatery
0209eaterysm.jpg

Tonight we had dinner with my childhood friend Kam, who was in town from Chicago on business. We went to 112 Eatery, which was delicious, if not overpriced, in my opinion. But really tasty -- don't get me wrong. And fantastic music playing as well (Poliça!).Kam and I have known each other since we were about ... 4? 5? Word has it I gave her the chicken pox (sorry!). Anyway, we always have fun catching up and my face always hurts from laughing by the end of the night -- which is awesome. This photo is of Kam's dinner (the sirloin) which was way better than mine (the swordfish). So if you venture out to 112, get the sirloin over the swordfish. But word has it you should skip both of those and just go for the cheeseburger. I'm just sayin'.

academic

Wow, how "scholarly" is this? When I was in high school, FOX had a TV show on prime time... I wish I could remember the name. It didn't even last a year, I think. Anyway, it was supposed to be kinda like 90210, but at a Midwestern college. And the buildings were old and brick and covered in ivy and it was a very romantic view of college. And to this day, when I think of higher education, that's what I think of. Well... that and amazing basketball. But I digress. So this morning I was walking to class and I was admiring the vines on the columns, and thought that might be a nice photo. It took me back to the "romance" of university life that I had seen in that old television show. The rest of the day was full of work, with me finally getting home at 8 pm, wolfing down dinner and watching the last two minutes of the Kansas game. Now I'm off to bed. Gotta rest up for the weekend concerts...

strike it

Meh. Nothing big today. Work, dinner, work, bed. I really wasn't sure what to shoot today as my desk is about the most boring thing ever... so I opted for these cool matches that I got Jamie for Christmas. I like them a) because they came in a lovely box with mustaches and fabulous typography and b) the matches are about 4 inches long and are perfect for lighting a fire. I know. Boring. Fun stuff this weekend, I promise...
