I woke up this morning and biked over to the Kingfield farmers market again. Seriously? That Foxy Falafel makes the uphill bike ride totally worth it... this might have to become a Sunday ritual. Anyway, this here is a photo of the Chef Shack. They also have amazing food, and I was pretty tempted by the sweet potato tacos. Maybe next week... Also? Look at that other item on there... beer and bacon brats? Yes, please.
I love taking photos of pretty girls. Tonight was "Racktacular" which was a breast cancer benefit. Artists decorated bras that Lily's Burlesque troupe modeled, and then attendees bid on the bras, with the money going toward breast cancer research. So lots of fun for a good cause. And a great name, no? Almost as good as last month's Rockers for Knockers.Anyway, this bra was meant to look like an owl. Get it? Hoot, hoot. Most of the bras had a great sense of humor behind them (milk money, spice rack and second base to name a few). You can see photos from the whole evening over here. At the very end of the take are some band shots of Communist Daughter and Alpha Consumer. I figured of all the shots, those band shots could go at the end. Let's give the ladies top billing, eh?
We had a few friends over tonight for a cookout and to watch "Zombieland" screened outdoors. It was a perfect summer night, and we had a ton of fun catching up with this particular group. Many of these friends are the folks that I see at concerts and whom I've met in the photo pit. In case you haven't noticed, there' haven't been a lot of shows going on around here (or at least shows that I'm interested in attending). So we gathered tonight for good food and a movie. And have I mentioned how much the dogs love it when we have company? There's all these new people to lick! And herd! And mooch food from!Back to the photo above, though. I got these popcorn bags from the hardware store (our hardware store has free popcorn while you shop -- it's awesome). They gave me the bags FOR FREE. I will now be a very loyal ACE hardware customer. Anyway! I filled the bags with popcorn for everyone during the movie, and at the end of the night we were cleaning up, and Merlin seemed to be missing. That is, until I found him with that long snout of his in one of the extra popcorn bags chowing down on the leftover goods. This is so unlike him -- he minds so well. I guess it's a true testament as to how delicious and buttery that popcorn really was.
I wasn't intending this to be Insect Week on Shuttersmack, but look what I found on the side of the house today! This dragonfly was huge... as in, I noticed it from the street and pulled BACK into the driveway to see if it was a baby bat (we get those sometimes). Anyway, I couldn't resist this color or the details in the wings, so I had to take a few photos. In other news, today is my Friday and I get to sleep in tomorrow and not go to the office full of construction workers building pipes around my desk! That might not be a very big deal to you guys, but it sure is to me. See you on the other side, kids!
Today was long. But tonight I got home and opened up the gift that was given to all the guests at the wedding last week (it was also the place setting nametag). It was a lovely candle in my very favorite scent! (Verbena). And isn't that packaging amazing? I am tellin' you, this wedding was spectacular.
I spotted this guy today while I was waiting at the printer for some page proofs. We grow 'em big here in Minnesota. And these suckers LOVE snackin' on me. Creepy, no?
Some of you might follow me on Twitter and know about the construction going on at my desk. They are putting in some sort of drainage pipe from the roof, and it is LOUD. Granted, this crew only works for about an hour or two each day -- but their work is usually peppered with talk about their wives or the latest episode of "Two and a half men." And you have to picture it happening in the classic "Fargo" accent. If you look at the photo above, my desk is right on the other side of that plastic sheeting on the left. Today the foreman ended his workday by saying "Well kids, I guess tomorrow we'll just pull the cork and cross our fingers!" So yeah. I'm a little nervous about staying dry this week.
Brunch today was served up at the Kingsfield Farmer's Market. This here is a foxy falafel on the left and Indian spiced donuts from the Chef Shack on the right. This is a smaller market in town that has a ton of delicious produce plus delicious cooked food and musicians playing all the while. It reminds me of the markets in Austin... but about 20 degrees cooler. A delicious start to a Sunday.
