Today was another really great day in Austin. The weather was fantastic, and we saw some fun music and friends. We brunched with our buddy Spike first thing in the morning, and then had him drop us off downtown as we mosied over to the next show.On our way there, we heard Poliça warming up, and we were waved into the Hard Rock hotel space. There they were doing free instagram stickers, which were very cool, and they gave Jamie a free shave (with hot towels and a neck massage!). And we got to see Poliça again! Fun!From there, we wandered down to the Mohawk where we waited in line for about 45 minutes before getting in to see Blitzen Trapper, Cloud Nothings and Bob Mould. Cloud Nothings were so, so good. They don't have Minneapolis on their touring schedule yet, but keep your eyes peeled. I really want to catch them in the Entry or Triple Rock. The rest of the day was spent seeing friends and catching up -- one spot had Lissy Trullie playing, and that's when I snapped this photo of her bass player. I love her look. This event was at this Ray Ban house where they featured artwork from "visionaries," and it was filled with amazing concert posters and rock photography. So I was thrilled! We are back packing at the hotel now before heading out for the last three shows tonight. They won't end until 2 am, and we have to leave for the airport by 4:30 am, so we're trying to get all that we can done now so that we might sleep for an hour or so tonight. Rock'n'roll. Also? Do not call me tomorrow. I'll be sleeping like a rock. And after I wake up, I will post more photos of today...
This is Santigold. I saw her a few years back, and LOVED IT. And she was just as phenomenal today -- great songs, great performance, backup dancers, wonderful costumes... just a real show.I didn't see as many bands today (only five) because tonight I wanted a nice, sit-down dinner and to watch the Kansas basketball game. So that's what I did.If you'd like to see the other bands I shot today, they're up here!
What a day! I spent most of the afternoon working on a fashion-y photo side project (which was fun because it was such a change of pace), but still managed to squeeze in at least 10 bands. I can't talk about the fashion stuff yet, but I'll fill you in soon, I promise.Jamie and I were walking down the street to breakfast this morning, when we heard Lucero. We just turned toward the club, flashed the badges and were in to an empty club with plenty of room up front to shoot and there was Lucero. Good morning! Never in my life did I think I'd see those boys play so early. After that I walked all over for this other project before making it back to the clubs around 7 to shoot Poliça, who were just magnificent (AGAIN). They might have been my favorite band of the day... on a day where I saw Lucero AND Titus Andronicus. Yup. That's Patrick from Titus above. Betcha didn't recognize him since he shaved, eh? Not sure I would have either. For more photos of the day (including Jonny Corndawg and the Jesus and Mary Chain!), look here.Oh! And yesterday's photos were posted this morning, but I forgot to update the blog post. You can get them here.
This was one of my first shots of the day, and I just loved this girl's style. I also like how she's twirling her hair while she walks down the middle of the street in those high heels. It just felt very sxsw to me.I'm not gonna post a photo set tonight because I'm totally exhausted and I have a little extra time tomorrow morning. Today we saw twelve bands, but two were so bad that I didn't bother spending the digital space to document them. But others? Others were phenomenal. Here's a clue: I saw Astronautalis today, and he was not my favorite show. Yeah. I know! Exciting, right? My favorite show was The Apache Relay. They were amazing live -- you have to catch them if you can. Also, we skipped out on Titus Andronicus today (boo) but we are hoping to catch them tomorrow. Other highlights, for those keeping score, were Waters, Tennis, Brendon Benson and the Alabama Shakes.Ok. Off to bed. I'll supply more photos tomorrow.
Well hello from Austin! Today was super fun and chill and I saw lots of good friends and ate amazing food and then saw some great music. I'm just gonna gloss right over the most annoying, drunk, rude crowd I've ever encountered and focus on the positive, mmmkay? After a day of fun, we ended up at this horrendous place called the Hype Hotel where it was free drinks of bad liquor being overserved to a bunch of douchebags. (Hence the horrendous crowd.) I will not be returning there. But! The music was good. This photo is of Delta Spirit, (whose album dropped on Tuesday and you should get it because it's damn good) and seeing them play the new stuff live was super fun. We also caught Free Energy, Miniature Tigers and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. All were good, only Delta Spirit was great, and I'm now off to bed at 4 am. And we'll do it all again tomorrow! Caio!Oh! More photos here, of course.
Look at this cutie! All blissed out after sleeping in until 11:30 while it's dark and rainy outside. Such a perfect way to spend the morning before being abandoned while Mom goes to Texas. If for some reason this isn't enough adorable dogginess for you, there are more photos over here.
This afternoon I got to shoot photos of Jeremy Messersmith recording his next album. How fun is that?! The band was recording at The Library over in Northeast. It was this studio where all the walls were covered floor to ceiling in books. My kinda spot, eh? My favorite thing about recording studios is all the amazing instruments you can find. If you'd like to see more shots from this afternoon, they are up over here. Enjoy!
