Listen up: This is not the image you want to see. The one you WANT to see is over at vita.mn here. It's of the Replacements playing in Chicago!!! I got to shoot it for vita.mn and the Star Tribune, but I had to sign a contract saying those were the only places the photo would appear... so I can't show you here. So go look there! Also, I would write more, but it's 2:30 am and I am leaving for the airport in four hours and I need to pack and sleep. And I spent 8 hours in the cold rain today, and I'm too old for that and I'm tired. Sorry for the brevity, folks.
Oh hi there! So this is about a block from where we're staying in Chicago! In fact, if I look out the window right now, I can see bleachers! How fun is *that*?We came into The Windy City today so we would be well rested (and excited!) for The Replacements tomorrow at Riot Fest. Can you even believe I'm about to photograph these guys? BECAUSE I CAN'T.So as we arrived at the airport today, I realized that we both forgot to pack rain gear. I checked the forecast... and it's 80% chance of rain tomorrow. Yeah. So today we walked around the city and shopped for rain jackets (and finally scored a few!). While doing so, we had an amazing lunch, fantastic coffee, and remember that ice cream I had back in Columbus that changed my life? Jeni's? Yeah, they opened a store here this weekend, and we happened to stumble upon it. I may or may not have squealed in delight. Then tonight we met up with some friends Jamie knows through work, and we had a BLAST drinking wine and eating cheese and olives and nuts. Seriously -- so much fun.Weekend getaways like this are the best. Please keep reminding me of this so I do it more, because man, I am having a marvelous time. For your internet share of the day, I'm sending you to see rare photos of an amazing albino humpback whale swimming in the ocean. These photos are so, so cool. Check 'em out over here!
How pretty is this city? I love it! I worked an amazingly long day today shooting a beautiful lesbian wedding. I was the second shooter though, and I don't want to steal the primary shooter's thunder, so I'm going to leave you with this image instead. The wedding was at the Minikahda Country Club, and this is the view from the patio where the wedding took place. Not bad, eh?For your internet share of the day, I am sending you to one of my favorite things I've found online this MONTH. It is just that cool. It's a short video about how octopi camouflage themselves. You should really watch it -- I had no idea this stuff was possible and my mind has been BLOWN. Mother nature, you are bad ass.
Oh man, I love that schnoz (is that how you spell it?). One of the most interesting parts of Magda, to me anyway, is her nose/face/chin area. Because she's so monochromatic, it's all pinkish brown, and you can see all the pores for her whiskers.I've never been able to shoot this before because she's so wiggly, but I was working on it today while she was napping and right when I snapped this photo, she woke up and licked the lens. Too cute.I have so, so many great internet shares for you guys -- really, you should stick around a few days. First up is DOGS DRIVING CARS ON VIDEO. I am not even kidding. This is amazing -- check it out here. I mean, look at that dog with his paws on the wheel! So cute! And as a sidenote, and small history lesson, my uncle sent me this information about the monument that the fox was sleeping on yesterday. FASCINATING local history, y'all. And if you think you don't want to read it, you do. It's about MURDER.
You guys, this is why I love living in Minnesota. This morning I took a walk with a friend and then we drove through the cemetery (what? Don't act like I haven't told you how much I love that place). And we spied this fox! He's a young one and so dang cute!! I'm just gonna bombard you with photos now because I rarely get to see foxes this close. Enjoy!
Today I had the honor of doing some photos for MPR's Wits series. I've written about this wonderful program several times before, and Jamie and I love to attend the shows. We've been fortunate enough to see Ted Leo, Aimee Mann, Paul F. Thompkins, Patton Oswalt, Metric, and David Koechner who had me laughing to the point of tears. Do you see a theme here? Super smart and hilarious entertainers for a night of ... well... laughing. And games. And music. It's great. (And you can get tickets to this fall season here, btw.)(My dream lineup in this show would be Seth Green and Arcade Fire... you know, in case anyone is paying attention and has money pouring out of their orifices.)So back to my photo! The amazing backing band at these shows is called The Witnesses and is led by John Munson (he's that guy up there, Mom)! You know this guy from Semisonic, but I love him even more for The New Standards. Anyway, the band is just one more ingredient to the hilarious evenings, and I cannot tell you how much laughing there was during today's shoot. Good times. For today's internet share of the day, I'm sending you to this hilarious video of a guy waking up from surgery, and as the drugs wear off he doesn't recognize his wife. And the reaction is PRICELESS (and maybe a touch sappy).
