A reader commented recently that it had been a while since I shared any photos of Magda on the blog, and they were right and I feel guilty. By the way, look at her pretty eyelashes!Last week, while the family was in Austin, Magda stayed with the best dog sitter ever who takes her to tap rooms and on super walks and has many other dogs in her home to play with. To say Magda is a tad sad to have returned home is an understatement. But last night she finally did crawl back into bed with us to snuggle a bit. So maybe we are on the road to forgiveness? I hope so.Here are a few internet shares to entertain you:+ I loved this story about an immigrant gaining citizenship. These new measures of deportation are so sad to me.+ I want this t-shirt.+ I love, love, love this video that shows all of the front pages of the NY Times ever and truly illustrates how visual we have become (it's short -- I promise).+ And speaking of the Times, they started a new campaign today. I like it a lot.+ I liked this parenting article about raising kids who suffer consequences (Apologies to those without kids! And apologies to Ezra of the future.)
Today I was on set at a food factory where the lovely Lucy and I had to don plastic shoe coverings, hairnets, gloves and white coats while we shot and lit photos of production lines cleaning, slicing and prepping produce. It was HYSTERICAL. But besides the less-than-glamorous wardrobe, we then got to style/photograph tons of produce. We had a blast.
We found out Monday afternoon that our flight had been delayed an hour, and that we needed to kill that time around Austin. We were already planning a fabulous trip to Salt Lick BBQ, but with the extra time we decided to check back in on the peacocks. And I'm so glad we did! One of the Misters was feeling mighty grumpy at a bunch of doves and fanned his feathers out beautifully. It was so fun to see Ezra witness that. Also? I always think this act is just as gorgeous from the back as the front. No internet shares today -- I spent all day yesterday in the car or on a plane, so all you get are these photos! More tomorrow...
We spent the weekend in Texas, and it was wonderful. Wait. I should clarify. Not Texas, but Austin. We spent time eating amazing food, trying Home Slice Pizza for the first time (what in the WORLD took us so long!), riding trains in Zilker Park, exploring Lady Bird Johnson's Wildflower Sanctuary (gorgeous!) and then loads of time relaxing on the screened-in porch of our air bnb, just happy as clams. We also spent a lot of time with our dear friends Mike and Julie who drove up from Corpus Christie, including one night of two step dancing. Yes. You read that right. Here are a few images of the nature scenes I photographed (besides the peacocks). I'm sure I'll have more images later this week. Until then, happy Monday!
Hello!I'm in Texas! Just in case you were wondering where you find wild peacocks in Minnesota... I don't think you do. Maybe? Not sure.We had them in our neighborhood in Miami, and while that sounds lovely and exotic, it's really kind of a pain this time of year when it's mating season. Why? Because they are LOUD and they call out to each other A LOT -- and even in the middle of the night. But I still enjoy them when I can find them here in Texas. And Ezra? He thought they were pretty cool. But he might have told me to stop taking photos, that I had shot enough, and that it was time to go. Why do I think I might hear that a lot in the next 16 years? No internet shares today because I (blissfully) was no where near a computer. So here are more photos.
I'm in the middle of a big shoot this week over at Wit & Delight's new studio space, and the light is looooovely. It's really fun to work on a natural light shoot like this, and as you can see from her blog (linked above), the space is gorgeous.Today is the last day of this shoot, and then tomorrow will be an adventure of a different sort (more on that later). For your internet shares of the day:+ Superb Owl Photos+ Mike D has an amazing house and he will just always be among the coolest in my mind.+ Seven travel tools
I know this kid was on the blog yesterday, but I couldn't resist this image. Happy Valentine's Day, y'all!A few internet shares:+ This piece on the way Trump shakes hands made me laugh.+ This piece titled, "My husband used to be a woman" is just one more reminder that love comes in so many wonderful shapes and sizes.
This kid learned all about splashing in puddles this weekend because it was almost 40 degrees in Minnesota in February. As a Minnesotan, this is a nice break. As an Earthling, this is terrifying. But all-in-all, we had a great, slow weekend. We are trying super hard to stay healthy right now (after last winter, we enjoy each and every healthy day!), and so we opted to avoid zoos and toy stores and instead played games, went on walks, splashed in puddles and read lots of books. We also constructed a variety of amazing train tunnels using magnatiles and cooked some wonderful food. All in all, a much-needed break. The week ahead is filled up with a big photo shoot that I'm excited about, so I wanted to rest up while I could. For your internet shares:+ Zsa Zsa Gabor has a house for sale in Palm Springs. I guess I could slum it there for a bit.+ Yo-Yo Ma is coming to Minneapolis!+ And Serial has a new program coming up! As one of the few people who enjoyed both season one and season two, I'm excited. And speaking of pop culture: I was so enthralled with The OA last week on Netflix. But the end was SO BAD. Do not waste your time. That is my advice.+ Lastly, if you are still looking for ways to get active politically, Swing Left had a huge conference call last night with 16,000 of us focusing on how to take back the house in 2018.
