So, raise your hand if you adore the person who cuts your hair. Right? I LOVE my stylist, and you can only imagine how thrilled I was when she asked me to photograph her wedding! On a boat! At sunset! I mean... c'mon!Plus? It meant I got to meet her boyfriend/fiancé/now husband! I'd been hearing about this guy for years! This was such a fun wedding for all of those reasons, but also because these two make each other so very happy, and it was such a joy to spend the day basking in that laughter and sunshine. Enjoy the photos -- this one was a blast.
It has begun! The great rush of family photos for holiday cards is on, and man are things busy around here. That said, if you would like a family session this year, please reach out as soon as possible. I have a handful of sessions left in September and October, and November is still pretty open. This photo, above, was actually a birthday shoot (that little guy is about to turn one!), but I loved how is sister was running up behind him in the shot. For your internet shares of the day:+ I just started listening to this podcast about life in prison. Wow. + Look at these beautiful mushrooms!+ If I win the lottery, I'm buying this flatware.
You didn't think I could be on a boat for four hours and NOT take photos of the water, did you? Because, c'mon. We all know how much I love the texture of lakes and waves and rivers! After photographing the couple during sunset on Saturday, they dashed back inside to visit with their guests, and I snapped just a few shots of the lake behind me. It was such a lovely day out there. I have another wedding on a boat this coming weekend, but it's forecast for 90% chance of rain. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that the meteorologists of the world are wrong on this one, eh?In the meantime:+ Need some amazing tights for fall? I got you covered.+ Just take a look at what's possible with colored pencils.+ Madonna's varied looks through the years. Personally, I was always a fan of her brunette years ("Like a Prayer"). Big surprise.+ And how about these three takes on plastic surgery! I could have looked at this all day long.
This past weekend, I was so happy and lucky to photograph my amazing hair stylist getting married on a boat at sunset. I mean, really, I'm getting paid for this? Pinch me now.I have a gazillion more photos (obviously) that I will share down the line (like when they are finished), but I wanted to give you this sneak peek into what a gorgeous day it was.And for your internet shares of the day:+ Did you miss the eclipse? Here's when and where you can see another one (if you live long enough).+ I'm not one for camping, but I could get on board with these airstreams.+ I have become a fan of the bagged salad at the grocery store. Here's how to make them even better.
You guys know I'm a total science nerd, so it's not surprising that when it got to be 15 minutes before the eclipse, I decided I better check it out.Last month I ended up randomly buying this filter for my camera that turned everything BLACK. The intent was to make a sunny day look like dusk, but on the day we shot, it was overcast and rainy so I didn't need the filter. But since I had it, and it was partly cloudy outside, I figured I could use it to shoot the eclipse if I didn't stare. So I quickly aimed my autofocus and closed my eyes and shot. This is what I got!So I got to be both a photo nerd AND a science nerd today. Pretty great day, if you ask me.And my eyes are fine -- it was just like coming inside from a bright day. So you guys can stop worrying about that as well -- I'm not kidding when I say this filter is dark as night.
Saturday morning, I was prepping for a wedding that afternoon. I was upstairs getting dressed when I heard Ezra downstairs in the kitchen with Jamie. He was telling Jamie that he needed to get ready for his photo shoot.I mean... wow. Oh, how I hope he someday wants to come on a photo shoot. But for the moment, I ran downstairs and saw him "having a photo shoot" in the kitchen. So I picked up my camera, and we both had "photo shoots" of each other. There was lots of giggling and laughing and showing each other our pictures. It was adorable. For your internet shares of the day:+ If famous movie directors made recipe videos. Awesome and hilarious.+ Why I might start reading Allure magazine again.+ Amazing story about a woman who lost her wedding ring.
I know it's been a long time since this princess has graced the blog. But man, is she winning gazillions of love points from me this year. Her patience with the kid is UNBELIEVABLE. The idea that four years ago she was returned five times for her behavior with kids just reinforces my belief that kids under age 3 are tough with puppies -- no matter the dog. This was my first week working in the studio each day, and finally last night I made it out to get Magda a dog bed for the space. We trotted up to the studio, I laid out her bed, filled her water bowl, and she promptly positioned herself in front of the door where she has been all day, sniffing madly at anyone who might walk by. Soft growls are reserved for four-legged building residents. We did take a break for a walk in the park across the street -- which was lovely, even in the rain. Overall, I'm quite pleased with how this arrangement is working out.For your internet shares:+ Tina Fey says exactly what I feel. I just want to eat cake. (And ice cream.)+ There are a lot of amazing photos here, but I'm mentioning it because of the albino moose. Wow.+ Have you seen this artist's work at the Mall of America? He has a similar (but smaller) installation at my hair salon. It's magical.
Hey guys! I promise to have a little more fun today.I spent most of my time this morning working in the studio, both on photos and client work along with sexy things like hanging curtains and sorting trash. I did take a break to order some new eyeglasses though, and that's always fun!But one of the sessions I worked on today was one I shot last week -- the evening after we moved into our new space. I was bone tired that day, but we had so much fun with this session. Just look at this little boy's expressions! What a delight! For your internet shares of the day:+ This gives me faith in humanity.+ Slamdunk birthday presents for kids. + Today I learned about "crown shyness." How beautiful!
