This morning Jamie told me to "Quick! Get your camera!" Let me tell you, this is a rarity. So I obliged and ran over, and there were two ducks (male and female) next to our fence in the backyard. Weird. Just waddling along between the houses, so here you go. Our own "house mallard" for the morning. But that was not the most exciting part of the day, now was it? That would have been the UNBELIEVABLE Kansas win in their Final Four game. Seriously, the clock ran out and Jamie and I were just staring at the TV with out mouths agape. That is the second time in this tournament when we pulled off a win that was... just unbelievable. So now we play the final game against Kentucky on Monday. Now, that is going to be... ahem... a very tough win. So I'm just going to relish in the fact that we are one of two teams to have the longest season of the year, and I'm going to really enjoy watching Thomas Robinson playing for the Kansas Jayhawks one last time, especially with Danny Manning on the bench. That should be special.
Tonight we met up with our buddies Chris and Alby for happy hour. They, too, happen to work at Best Buy, and we wanted to all toast to everyone still being employed at the end of this week. What a sigh of relief. The evening started out as just happy hour, but it moved on to a delicious Thai dinner full of laughs and good times. Man, I love hanging out with these two.One of my favorite lines of the night came as we were discussing their new house in Palm Springs. "Palm Springs is like the Gay 90s. Your either gay, or your 90," Alby said. Now if only we could find a cheap, direct flight to get us down there...
Today Best Buy laid off 400 people. Luckily, Jamie's job is safe, but to say it's been a stressful week at the office would be an understatement. I rarely come home to find Jamie making mixed drinks, but today it seemed like a decent idea. Whisky gingers... mmm...
I swear, this winter was so light that I keep waiting for the snow. Even now, with the trees blooming and the tulips coming up, I still can't quite believe it. This weekend it's supposed to get back up to 70. Man, that's gonna be nice...
Say hello to the birthday boy. My gift to him was 20 minutes on the front porch without a leash, watching the traffic and pedestrians go by. Because he's such a freakin' STAR he didn't even try to budge from the porch. Not even once. SUPER. STAR.(Yes, I'm looking at you, Memphis.)(Or as we now call her, "Memphis, The Destroyer.")Anyway, he's eating dinner as I type this. What he doesn't know is that when he comes back upstairs he gets a big scoop of vanilla ice cream to celebrate. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Destroyer gets one, too. But he knows it's his day because he'll get a massive belly rub later as well. That's how we roll.
Red Thai curry with fresh vegetables and shrimp is one of my favorite things to cook (and eat), especially in the winter, but it never seems to photograph well. This was the best I could do with it tonight, right before I fixed myself a heaping bowl and settled in to catch up on the Mad Men premiere. That's my kind of evening right there, kids (if I'm not at a show, that is).
Wow! Did you guys watch the KU v. UNC basketball game today?! What a game! Memphis here looks about how we felt -- STRESSED. Merlin was kinda moody today and didn't want to be petted during the game (which is Jamie's main stress relief during such tormented times), so it was Memphis' turn. Thank god we won. In fact, Merlin might have just lost his job...
Today was mostly spent working on grading, until we met up with some good friends for an amazing (if not long) dinner over at La Chaya. Have you eaten there yet? Every time I go I am so happy with what I order, but for some reason it's never at the top of my head when I'm trying to choose restaurants. If you have a few hours to kill and want a great meal in South Minneapolis, I highly recommend it. And it's on Open Table, so you can make reservations from your phone! Also, this afternoon while I was working, Mr. Jonny Corndawg tweeted that they were going to play a second night in Minneapolis over at Palmer's for five bucks. Since our evening was open after dinner, and we always have fun at these shows, we checked it out again (as you can see from above). That made this our fourth show of his in one week. Yes, even I'm a little creeped out by that.
