winnersm.jpg

winnersmThis is the look of a man who has beat his daughter twice in a row at gin rummy after an amazing delivery dinner including pizza, lasagna and chicken parmesan. Quite the happy guy.Today for your internet share of the day, I'm sending you to this deck of cards that I found on the internet that is BEAUTIFUL. Perhaps I could win with these... but doubtful.

mom and me
0824familysm.jpg

0824familysmSo Jamie took this photo tonight! I stood and focused on Mom, and then had him step in to push the button. And while my mother does appear to be shrinking a little as she ages, I'm in pretty big heels in this shot.Today was pretty busy as we were at Lake Harriett, the Rose Garden, H&M (surprisingly, the one place my mother insists on visiting when in town), Lucia's, Magers & Quinn along with La Chaya, Sebastian Joe's and the dog park. Yeah, we're kinda beat around here....For your internet share of the day, I'm sending you to these amazing photo composites of cityscapes taken from morning to night and then smushed together into one photo. Super lovely!

dinner
0823lobstersm.jpg

0823lobstersmI totally ate this guy for dinner. Mom and Dad arrived around 3:30, and we headed over to Smack Shack for supper. My mother loves lobster, and she's been hearing about Smack Shack since they opened last winter/spring. She was 100% ready to down that lobster tail, let me tell you.Tomorrow we've got shopping and dog walks on the docket. We'll see what else we come up with. For your internet share of the day, I'm sending you over to this project where a photographer photoshopped dogs so they were dressed up as their owners. Pretty hilarious stuff.

oh my dog
0822merlinsm.jpg

0822merlinsmIsn't he the cutest? And it's a good thing, because he's not supposed to be on the couch without an invitation. And this is how I found him when I came downstairs from work today to get the mail. And he doesn't even look like he feels guilty!? Still, adorable. I will totally keep him.Today was full of photo processing, invoicing, "supervising" the installation of a brand-spanking-new hot water heater (let's not get into how much that cost, mmmkay?) along with way more cleaning than I've done in the last few months because my parents arrive tomorrow. That's right, Gay-Boo and J-Bird will be camping out at the Plessers. And you guys, Magda is so excited for STRANGERS! STRANGERS WHO SPEND THE  NIGHT! I hope the parents are ready for this girl. For your internet share of the day, I found this fabulous designed cookie/cake packaging. Each package is cut differently so the cookie looks like a different phase of the moon!!!!! There are not enough exclamation points to express how excited this made me. I mean, we all know that there are certain things I totally geek out about: Sci-Fi, Cheesy vampire tv shows (but NOT True Blood -- hate that one), dogs (obvs), SPACE STUFF, and Robert Downey Jr. (and Tim Riggins). And it's not often you see a combo of space stuff and baked goods, am I right? And I'm gonna give you a BONUS INTERNET SHARE OF THE DAY! Because it's related, and I like everyone to be smart about space stuff. Check out this site that shows you the size of the moon in comparison to the U.S. Way smaller than you thought, eh?

living the dream

0821glasssmOh kids, today was so dang fun. Seriously.I am working on a project that had me photographing an artisan glass blower this morning (he was making those beauties above!) and then some textile artists and then some candle makers and man, can I just photograph craftsmen all day long?? I learned so much and I now have SUCH a deep appreciation for every glass in my cupboard. What a fun day! Also? The glass blower's studio is in the original General Mill's factory, and what a cool spot THAT was! I could have explored all day long. Oh, and one more thing, should you, my dear reader, ever find yourself visiting a glass studio, I suggest you wear shorts and a tank top because holy hell was it hot in there. For my internet share of the day, I'm sending you over to an article that reiterates why I left Florida. The story details a man who attacked his mother's boyfriend with a SAMURAI SWORD because he had eaten the last of the CANNED SHRIMP. (Ew) We can all laugh out loud together on this one.

we'll just focus on the cute shoes
0820ankle.jpg

0820ankleHave I told you about my nightmares? I think I have. I think I've mentioned that I've had horrendously vivid nightmares since I was a kid. Normally, they involve me being chased and stabbed. I won't get into it any further than that, just know that you shouldn't let children* watch The Shining at age 9, mmkay? But last night was a different kind of nightmare (I didn't even fully remember it until mid-day today). I dreamed that someone had poisoned my dogs' water bowl (*shudder*). And then, in the middle of the night, Merlin (innocently enough) got up to get a drink from the bowl in our bedroom (this is real life, not in my dream).Well, I woke up from my dream, hurling across the room to stop him (obviously). But, see, here's the thing. I sleep on my side (yes all you experts, I know this is bad for my neck but I do it naturally, usually after I fall asleep) and when I woke up and hopped out of bed to "save" my collie, my left leg was asleep. Like, totally asleep. So instead of gracefully leaping from the bed to the dog as I had envisioned, I kind of collapsed in a heap (startling the hell out of my husband and the poor collie trying to quench his thirst). And in all the commotion, I twisted my ankle. It's not bad! No need to worry (mom!), but I've been taking pain killers, icing it and keeping it elevated a lot today because, let's face it, I need to be on my feet to work. And man, I have a lot of work this week! So let's stay mobile, shall we?Or better yet, let's focus on those shoes! Aren't they cute? I got them in Ohio and my buddy Julie got a matching pair. I will think of her every time I wear them (hobbling or not). And for your internet share of the day, I'm sending you over to the most nimble dog I've ever seen. He's a stunt dog! Watch this video and laugh.*I should note that my parents didn't "let" me watch this film, and that I might have watched it at a slumber party with all the "cool" kids.

adorable
08192013thumb.jpg

0819kiddosmShe melts my heart. As much fun as I had on my trip (which, was a LOT of fun, btw), it was really great to come home to this face. She was so eager to see my face stick her head into my armpit. And Merlin? Man, he was so excited to see me. Herding, wagging, barking. Yup. My home is where the dogs are.For your Internet Share of the Day, I found this while I was in the gate waiting to board my plane. Let's all laugh at how spacious airplanes in the late 60s were and how now we are herded in like cattle. But you know what? I'm still not complaining about flying. How else would we get to explore the world so easily?

last day in ohio
0818windowboxsm.jpg

0818windowboxsmLovely, right? This is the view out of my window in the mornings. I believe the only time I have had blooming flowers in a flower box outside my bedroom window (before Ohio, that is) would have been at the hotel in Prague. Mmmmmm.... Prague. Wasn't that lovely?Anyway, this trip has been so fantastic. Not only have my accommodations been SUPERB, but I have had so many laughs and excellent conversations with Julie and Mike. And the food... oh man, the food. Remember that amazing ice cream I had last night? We were right by another one of their locations today around 2 pm. So because I am an adult who makes my own life decisions, I had Jeni's ice cream for lunch. Hell, yes I did. And man, was it delicious. We also had an amazing home-made breakfast (turnip, chorizo egg bake), a beautiful walk through the city and we ended the night with dinner at a gastropub and Elysium at this amazing bar/movie theater.I am now packing up my bags (trying to get all my goodies to fit!) and crawling off to bed so I can rise bright and early for my flight tomorrow. I am not as sad as I thought I would be leaving, only because I had such an amazing time that I am certain I will be back here very, very soon. For your internet share of the day, I'm sending you to Honda's recent efforts to help save Drive-In movie theaters across the country. I was thinking about this tonight because the theater where we saw Elysium is a single screen, old-timey theater that has converted the lobby into a very cool bar. The kind of bar you would frequent even if you weren't seeing a movie. Anyway, I was pondering if they were going to convert to digital, and I found myself hoping they could afford it because I would hate to see this place close (much like the drive-ins that Honda is trying to save). Watch the short video here to understand the plight that mom-and-pop theaters are going through right now.
