So this was happening, oh, well, probably exactly 13 years ago to this time of night! I found some old wedding photos this evening, and I quickly scanned in this print. Yes, I have the negatives, but I don't have a scanner for that right now, so please excuse the quality. I think you still get the idea -- who would have ever thought I'd wear a dress that poofy?! Man, not me.While looking through these photos, it was fun to laugh at some of the details of my wedding, and sure there are things I would do differently now that I see such amazing, beautiful weddings several times a year. But the main decision? The man? I totally nailed that choice. Wait... bad choice of words. I got that choice RIGHT. That's what I meant to say! Haha. One decision that I do think I got terribly wrong however, was the photographer. I paid a student at the University $300 to shoot the wedding. I gave him the film (yes, I'm that old -- FILM) and he shot it all and just handed the film right back. Most of the photos were sharp and exposed correctly... but I have about four or five shots of me and Jamie from the entire day that don't involve the ceremony, and I don't have a single shot of me and my mom. I don't blame this kid at all -- he did exactly what I had asked for (and frankly, what a bargain!?). But looking back now, it's the one thing I wish I would have spent more money on. And yes, maybe you think I'm saying that because I have people pay me to do this exact job, but that's not it. As a former bride, I wish I had better photos of my family the experience of the day and all of the tiny details like the centerpieces and the place cards etc, etc.But back to the big decision of the man! What a keeper, eh? Tonight he took me to Saffron for dinner and we had such a great evening. I am just baffled that the first boy I ever asked on a date when I was 19 turned out to be the most perfect match ever. I got pretty darn lucky. (And yes, I asked HIM out. Sorry Dad, I couldn't resist.)
Tonight was my monthly dinner with Nyberg here... isn't she adorable? Anyway, there was good food, *excellent wine* and a delicious salted caramel dessert. Needless to say, we had a good time. Also, last night after I posted my blog I snuck out to a P.O.S. show over at Fifth Element. You guys! Do you have his newest album yet? It's called "We Don't Even Live Here." No? NO? WHY NOT? If you like music at all and if you ever enjoyed the Beastie Boys, please trust me and go pick up this album. It is so, so good. And it will make you want to dance. If you want to see photos from the show, you can look here. And if you are feeling philanthropic, please donate to the guy as he just had to cancel his tour because he needs a new kidney. Musicians have a tough time with health insurance, especially if they have a pre-existing condition, and replacing organs is expensive. You can donate through paypall at stefneedsanewkidney@gmail.com. Muchas gracias.
So remember when I mentioned my shoot with an adorable 2-week old on Saturday? Yup, this is her. I know I didn't *shoot* this image today, but I did spend this morning working up the photo set, and I thought it would be a shame to keep this kid from you. Plus, word has it that some of you out there like it when I post baby photos (hi Mom!).
Oh yeah! I also went to a Menomena show last night. Since it was at the Triple Rock, it was a super late show, and this was shot after midnight, making it fodder for my Sunday blog instead of Saturday. Plus, I have piles and piles and piles of work and cleaning and cooking to do today, so I wanted to bang out this blog post earlier than usual. But let's get back to the band! These guys put out one of my very favorite albums of 2010 called Mines, and I highly suggest you pick up a copy. The band is always amazing live as they each play 4-5 different instruments each per show, and the drummer is placed right up front where I can shoot him. Last night's show featured bare feet, a true mullet and someone playing a RECORDER. Yeah, like you learned to play in the 3rd grade. It was so fun!You can see more photos of the show up over here. Enjoy!
This morning I left the house at 7 am to get to a newborn shoot on the other side of town, and it was so foggy and spooky and lovely outside! I drove past my very favorite cemetery on the way there, and was cursing that I didn't have enough time to stop and shoot because the fog was so thick, and I would have begged and pleaded for some sort of scary Halloween shoot at that very location. But alas, I had an adorable 2 week old waiting, so I hurried on.However, on my way home I saw the cemetery was finally open and there was a little fog left, so I drove in hoping for some images. Man, I love this place. It is gorgeous and peaceful and I always want to just wander around and look at headstones and such, but since I'm very bad at remembering cemetery etiquette (where to walk?), I just snapped images from the paths/roads. I did love this tree in particular as you can see where all the leaves landed and how the color jumps out of the gray morning. Pretty soon the leaves will have all fallen and you will be back to getting more photos of dogs instead of trees. But for now, you must bear with me as this is the most lovely autumn I can remember, and it's pleasing me to no end.
I was driving to the mall today to get a little anniversary shopping under my belt (our actual anniversary is next week), and I had to stop and take a photo of the trees. I mean, this is so vibrant and gorgeous. I don't know if it was because we had an extra long, hot summer or what, but the colors this year are out-of-control amazing.
