I had a shoot last night over at the Arboretum (which is LOVELY right now, you guys!), and they have a field of crazy scarecrows set up. How rad is THIS guy, eh? I loved the face on that pumpkin.I finally got some of my halloween decor out this weekend (not all of it... yet), and I'm slowly getting ready for the holiday. This is my favorite time of year, but it also happens to be when I am most slammed with work, which can make things nuts. But the crisp air? The crunchy leaves? The first fires in the fireplace? Man. That cannot be beat. For your internet share of the day, how about that new Star Wars trailer, eh?
It was a pretty domestic week at home. Lots of work, so lots of rest as well. We cooked a lot, ran lots of errands, tried to figure out the new nap schedule and cleaned up a lot for fall. It was super dull, but much needed.
Ez got this push toy from some dear friends of ours, so he pushed around a bunch of books and magazines all day. Next, we'll fill it with wine and cheese.
We also built the first fire of the season, which Ezra was mesmerized by.
He played a lot with the newspaper. Always a good time.
Magda had a nice recovery from the raisin incident, although Ezra cruising through the house with the cart might not be her favorite thing. As you can see, she has a small scar on her nose right now from her cut a few weeks back. I hope it fades...
Ezra also started this weird growly smile thing.
And here's the boy in his other halloween costume, The Monkey. Have I mentioned this kid eats an entire banana every single morning? Oh yeah. And yes, I have 2 costumes for him. One was a freebie. Don't judge.
A few weeks back, I photographed a lovely wedding over at the Como Conservatory in St. Paul. It was an amazing day, and another fun wedding where, unbeknownst to me, some of my friends would be in attendance. I love those surprises! It was another super laid back couple who just wanted a relaxing day with their closest friends and family. They made it more about the experience than the event. Those weddings are the very best. I hope you enjoy the photos below!
Oh man, today was rough. I brought Ezra home from daycare a bit early because he had fallen in class and split his lip, and I wanted to make sure he was all right. (Yes, he's fine.) (Yeah, I'm that mom.) Anyway, I get him home and take the kid upstairs for a diaper change, when I hear some suspicious rustling from the living room. I run down to find Mags eating raisins from a ziplock that had been sealed and put away. THIS DOG, I SWEAR.So if you don't know, raisins are toxic to dogs and can kill them (grapes, too). So I call the vet and they say she needs to vomit them up asap. How do you get a dog to barf on purpose? Make them swallow hydrogen peroxide. Duh.Magda needed to drink 1.5 oz. of the stuff. So how do I get her to do that, you say?The vet suggests a turkey baster down the throat. Yup. Just another Thursday at the Plesser residence. So here I am, in the back yard, forcing a turkey baster into Magda's open mouth, squirting peroxide down her throat as the poor girl is gagging and spitting it back at me (glaring at me incredulously for feeding her poison). Then we all wait in the yard for 12 minutes until she begins to heave, and up come the raisins, which I then have to hand pick out of the barf to make sure she doesn't eat them again. It's a life of glory over here, I swear. The photo at the top? That was from earlier today when I was testing my lights. She was feisty even before all of this. Imagine how much she likes me now.For your internet share of the day, this article about how women in pain are not taken seriously at hospitals fascinated and enraged me.
I had a shoot today at a local agency, and they had this amazing foosball table that I (of course) had to photograph. How pretty is this!? Not as pretty as these amazing jellyfish photos. WHOA. As usual, swamped with work. Sorry for the brief post!
Earlier this summer, I was thrilled to take a bunch of photos for Boka -- a new brand/service of toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss that just launched this week. I know that doesn't sound thrilling, but it was a ton of fun (little kids brushing teeth? Yes, please!), and being part of a product launch is always an exciting endeavor! And besides that, I really adore a lot of the people behind this company, so that makes it fun as well.Anyway, the site went live this week and you can see tons of my photos over there, and you can shop around and see if you want any of their products. Jamie and I have been using them for awhile now, and the brushes are super duper soft on your gums and I looooove the dental floss.Below are some of my favorite shots from the project.
And for your internet shares of the day, did you know Playboy is going to stop running photos of naked women? And if you're local, Surdyk's is closing their MSP Terminal 1 location (tears!). And this is what Shuttersmack is getting for Christmas!
Oh man. What a weekend. First off, I talked about that lovely flight into Columbus on the blog last week (thank God I'm not going through that again this week), but then our time there was just fantastic. We were visiting my buddy Julie and her family -- and she has a daughter Ezra's age. Because of this, everything was so easy. They are on the same schedule as us, so dinner was easy. Naptime was easy. Driving was easy because they loaned us their car and carseat. It was the best way to travel ever. And on top of that, they are just super fun and relaxed people, so a visit with them is always wonderful. On Saturday, we all went to the zoo, and that's where that top photo was taken. I love the look on Ezra's face in the reflection.
This was Ezra at the airport after the epic meltdown on the airplane on our way into Columbus. Stone cold passed out.
These were some of the attractions at the zoo. I am always a sucker for flamingos, but I really love those ruffled feathers in the back.
The penguins were SUPER close to us (which was cool) and they just watched us. All lined up like we were gonna feed them!
This is Julie's daughter while we ate lunch at the zoo.
Here we have the kids while there was an otter feeding show going on BEHIND THEM. They were looking at people down below on boats. Apparently they don't think otters are cool yet.
Are you seeing a theme to this weekend? Lots of stroller and carseat naps.
Julie's daughter had AMAZING toys that Ezra loved. Lots of push and ride toys, and this here airplane starts up (the propeller goes), lights up and plays crazy music. And there is no off button. Julie is a much better person than I.
Ezra loved walking around with the push toys. They were super fun for his age right now, and they did help him with his balance.
We also played with bubbles! And yeah, Julie doesn't even look pregnant. She's the hottest mom-to-be ever.
They also made us dinner for Jamie's birthday this weekend. As you can see, it was amazing.
A little boy time on the back porch.
And I *love* this photo of the two kids. She really wasn't mad at HIM per se, but this photo could have so many captions. We will save it for their wedding. ;)For your internet share of the day, I made this fantastic recipe tonight and it was a huge hit with the guys. It's not the kind of food I normally make, but it's chilly here and Ezra didn't eat very well when we were traveling, so I was aiming to get a lot of calories into him quickly. Done and done.
This was the scene this morning as we comforted Mags by telling her that yes, we will in fact return to pick her up in a few days. It's always hard to drop her off at the dog sitter's house -- no matter how much she loves it there. And I'm always so, so happy to get her back when we return. But then again, vacations are mandatory in our family. We landed in Ohio around 4 pm today after living out my own personal nightmare of attempting to parent a toddler during a meltdown on an airplane, who also cannot have his diaper changed because the drink carts have blocked you in and so between the tears and the glares of fellow passengers, you soon feel wet warmth on your lap. Yeah guys. Living the dream over here. But we survived! And hopefully we never (ever, ever) have to see any of those people from that airplane again. And now that I have shattered any remnants of cool that I might have still maintained, let me steer you to the internet share of the day, where my friend Andrea picks up the cool factor of the entire world and tells you how she attended a private Prince concert last night at Paisley Park. WITH MADONNA. Yeah. Amazing.
