new project

0904bootssmI get asked a lot if I'm interested in taking product shots. And you know what? I'm not. Normally. When I think of product shots, I think of super sterile images on white backgrounds, like this one. And those images kind of bore me. Now, don't get me wrong, as a designer I *love* those images. They are useful for about seven thousand different reasons, but as a photographer I am bored by them (am I a Gemini or WHAT?). I've been pondering other ways to photograph products, and last week when I was over at Caldrea, I saw an image like this one hanging in their hallway, and I stopped and stared. For like, a minute. THESE are the kinds of product shots I would love to do! Photos that show the products as you would see them around the house (ok, let's be real, no one's house looks like that Caldrea shot... but we can dream). However, I don't really have much experience art directing in that particular fashion -- and shots like that require serious planning and direction. So I decided to start a project here on my blog where I would practice such product shots when I was having a slow day. And here we are!So how about those boots up there, eh? GORGEOUS, RIGHT? That was a treat that Jamie insisted I get last week for "back-to-school." And you should smell that leather... it's delicious. For your internet share of the day, I'm sending you to this rad video about harvesting cranberries... and then dudes wakeboard on the cranberry bog. You know, like you do. It's pretty cool -- and I'm planning a trip to a cranberry festival in Wisconsin in a few weeks, so I'm all about this one. Enjoy!
