Kieran's Kitchen

Post by Lucy

On a recent assignment for City Pages, I got to stop by the Food Building, and the newly opened Kieran's Kitchen to shoot a bit of their space, and the delicious food. If you have not been to the Food Building, it is well worth the trip. The space is filled with a unique collection of brilliant makers - Red Table Meat Co., Baker's Field Flour & Bread, and Alemar Cheese Co., - all of which produce their products onsite, and then ship to local and national vendors.Kieran's Kitchen combines a market and cafe that highlight the delicious staples made on-site. The dining area is cozy and inviting, and the building itself is open for self-guided tours to see the makers in action. So, not only is this space a spot you can stop by for a delicious meal, but you can learn a bit more about the process it took to bring it to your table!

Fall Family Photos

Post by Lucy

Fall family sessions are in full swing now, and it is always *so* much fun to re-connect with clients each year! This is my second year working with the little guy pictured above, and his wonderful parents. For this year's session we stopped into the studio to play around  - Calvin showed off his balancing skills, we played with bubbles, he and his pup posed - and then we made our way across the street to Loring Park for a few shots outside. If you are still looking to book a session this year, I have a few weekend spots still available. But, things are filling quickly so please reach out soon so we can work together!

Spring Migration

Post by Lucy

It's one of my favorite times of year - the temperatures are warming up, the early spring plants are just starting to peak out of the ground, the lakes are finally opening up, and the birds are migrating north! It's always a treat, and a challenge, to see as many species as possible as they make their way from their wintering habitats to their summer spots. I've only been out a couple times to take photos of birds this spring, but,  I was really happy to have the chance to head down to Lake Pepin on a recent evening to see the pelicans!Below are shots of those pelicans, eagles, hooded mergansers, wood ducks, mallards, red-winged black birds, and some ever elusive seagulls :)

Lydia Ann

Post by Lucy

I recently had the honor of stopping by a friend's house to take some newborn photos of their beautiful new daughter, Lydia Ann. I am just starting out with newborn photography, but oh my is it special. I love seeing the interactions of new parents (and grandparents in this case!) with their new kids - the love that fills the rooms is incredible. Also, those adorable little hands, toes, noses? Not a bad subject. I have a few more newborn sessions coming up, and I am excited to continue to learn more about this process, build my portfolio, and take on more clients! Also grateful to have someone like Leslie's work to look up to.Ok, I am going to log off now - I am up in northern Minnesota taking a little vacation, and it's time to get out and do some cross country skiing! Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

Creative Memories

Post by Lucy

So along with taking photos, I also style photos! Basically that means I work with clients on set design. Over the last year, Leslie and I have worked with Creative Memories, a scrapbooking company based here in Minnesota. Leslie takes all of these beautiful photos, and I style the collections! Each month we have several shoots with CM as they have new products roll out. Each collection is based on a theme, and it's my job to prop sets that accentuate the designs. It’s always so fun to dream up little sets and then make them a reality in our studio by scouting and sourcing props. It’s even more fun to do that with the CM team, and to have Leslie there taking lovely images. These photos are then used all over - print materials, website, social media posts, etc. Below are a few of my favorites from over the last year!

Grace & Josh

Post by Lucy

On December 27th, I had the pleasure of photographing a very intimate wedding that included the couple and their immediate families. The pair, Grace and Josh, got ready in their room at the Hewing Hotel before heading over to the St. Paul Courthouse for a civil ceremony. We built in time in the day to take getting ready photos, and to take family portraits as well. This couple filled their day with so much meaning. From beautiful outfits, to incorporating family momentos, to writing beautiful vows, these two created a celebration that spectacularly marked their day. I’m so glad I was able to capture it!

NYC

Hello from NYC! I am on a little trip out east, and am so happy to be here! My brother and sister-in-law live in the city, along with a couple old friends, so I try to make it out here at least once a year to visit them. The last few years I have also been working for my brother, and his business partners, taking photos at their various restaurants and catering companies (talk about a dream job!). They have four spots in Manhattan - The Wild Son, Goodnight Sonny, The Lost Lady and The Wayland. And, they are branching out into catering with Cocktails in Motion. These images I shot yesterday for the catering brand. Today, I'll be heading to the Wayland, Lost Lady and Goodnight Sonny to shoot some updated menu items -- it'll be busy, but it's so fun working with their teams that it's hard to even call this work! While I am not shooting, it's been wonderful just wandering around the city, stopping into shops and museums, people watching, etc. I've been to a comedy show at UCB, heading to a jazz club tomorrow, dinner out at a new restaurant tonight...It's always hard to pick what to do with everything going on here. For now, I am going to log off now and head out for a run in Prospect Park before jumping in to a full day of photography!

Zion National Park

I spent last week in Zion National Park and WOW. My husband, Jay, and I had never been there before, and were just spellbound by the landscape. The park is partly known for its crowds during the peak summer seasons, but we were glad to be there in the off season which meant zero crowds, and we lucked out with lovely weather the entire time.We hiked miles and miles everyday into the mountains, and of course did the famous Narrows hike which required renting waterproof pants and footwear since the water is frigid this time of year. I couldn't pick a favorite part of the trip if I had to - every moment and every view was spectacular. Below are a few photos that I hope capture an ounce of the experience!
