New Year's Eve will be spent in with family tonight, eating delicious beef stew that Jamie made for me today, as you can see above, drinking some amazing Oregon Pinot that was gifted to us and watching a movie, assuming we can ever get the little rugrat to go to bed.Not only has Jamie been cooking me an amazing meal today, but he's carrying the baby while doing so! Ladies, I married the right man, that's for sure. The second tip that he's the right man for me? Look at this recipe he sent me today! Grapefruit hot toddies?! Let's serve that up pronto! For your internet share of the day, I'm cheating and sending you to one of my own links -- my favorite shots of 2014. Enjoy! And have a safe New Year's Eve! I'll catch you in 2015.
Today was pretty relaxed. I woke up last night feeling quite ill -- not sure if it was the start of the flu or food poisoning from dinner, but by morning I felt much, much better. And by "morning," I mean 10 am, because Jamie took the day off work in case I was sick and let me sleep in. It was glorious.Anyway! One of the projects I'm working on this week is getting some of my prints framed for an upcoming rock'n'roll art exhibit in town! You guys should totally come to the opening on January 16 because a) the parties are super fun b) the photos are gonna be great and c) it's free and d) you can meet Ezra. It's his first gallery opening! But he'll only be there at the beginning as he has a very strict bedtime (stupid parents). You can get all the information for the showing here. I'm really excited about it because I have a lot of friends whose photos will be appearing as well, and I think it's gonna be a fun night. For your internet share of the day, I was intrigued by this red wine hot chocolate. I think the temperature only reached one degree here in Minneapolis today, so yeah, this sounds damn good to me.Also, the Star Tribune posted their favorite concert photos from this year, and I have a few in there as well! You can see the full gallery here.
Magda has been such a doll lately. She's not getting a ton of exercise, but I was able to steal away an hour for a long walk with her yesterday before the temperature got to the unbearable one degree that we had today. I mean, let's be clear, she's still got, um, "spirit" in the sense that I catch her with my memory cards in her mouth, pens between her paws on the couch and mouthing away on Ezra's new jumper. But on the flip side, she's super loving, nothing but snuggles and kisses for the baby, and she's taking loads of naps and not being super demanding (barky) with me during nap times. Which is key these days. I've even caught her licking Merlin. For your internet share of the day, how about this recipe for maple pecan pie, eh? My own recipe would be this:Step one: Drive to bakery.Step two: Purchase pie.But since I know some of you like to bake and are coming up on some time off, here you go.
You guys! It's been a full year of Savory Sundays! I have loved sharing my favorite recipes with you all so much, and it's been wonderful to work on my food photography like this. What a fun project! So I want to close off the year with a champagne cocktail -- what a better way to celebrate?!Oh, and I'll still pepper you with recipes occasionally in 2015, it just won't be weekly. Frankly, I don't have a whole lot more recipes that I feel strongly about enough to share yet. But as I develop them, I'll be sure to post. Right now I'm working on some amazing chili for winter, and I also want to share Jamie's homemade chicken soup recipe down the line. But for today, let's stick to this super easy cocktail that is perfect for holiday parties.
Each glass gets equal parts:• Cranberry juice (I like cran-pomegranate juice)• Triple sec• Champagne/prosecco/bubbly whateverYou can mix them in individual glasses if there's just a few of you, or for larger affairs you can mix equal parts juice/triple sec in a pitcher and then fill 2/3 glass with that and top it off with champagne for guests.Warning: These go down EASY. I have had many a guest tell me how much they loved them and then suffer hangovers the next day. You have been cautioned. So that's it! Happy New Year everyone!
Oh, this week was a roller coaster. Such highs! Such lows! One thing is for certain, just when you think you have had a good day with the kid and things are working out, the next day knocks you on your ass. And just when you think all is lost and this day is gonna blow, the kid smiles big and a wonderful, happy mood returns and you couldn't be more thrilled. (Also, notice how tummy time is ok now? Yay!)We had a full 11 hours of sleep on Christmas Eve. It was glorious! The best gift this kid could have given us! But then a few days later? I got about 1.5 hours of sleep the whole night. Oh, and it was not consecutive. See what I mean? But no matter what, I'm still totally smitten with this little sleep stealer. And I'm hopeful that we'll get him in a steady pattern soon enough. Or at least before he's two.
Here's my prince with the lovely Isla, my best friend Julie's daughter who is 3 months older than Ezra. I love this photo so much. We were so happy they could visit us this holiday season and the kids could meet.
There were some tired and cranky moments this week for sure. For some reason, getting in the car seat really pisses Ezra off this week. But start moving in it? Happy as a clam. Yup.
Christmas morning is even better than I thought when you've got a kid. Seriously, so much better.
Santa got Ezra this Jumper for the holiday, and watching Ezra figure it out is highly entertaining.
His ability to take off socks is stunning -- especially considering his inability to replace a fallen pacifier.
And lastly, one of my favorite moments this week was seeing Ezra watch Raiders of the Lost Ark with Jamie. He is clearly worried about the Nazis at this early age! And our pediatrician keeps telling us not to let Ezra watch TV, so yeah, we're breaking the rules. But it's a holiday. And a classic film.Oh! And before I forget! We also introduced the kid to Johnny Cash this week. That was SUPER fun. He loves it when his dad serenades him with Ring of Fire. As do I.
These dishes were a gift from my parents this year for the holidays. I love them. They were a gift from my grandmother to my parents years ago -- Armetale pewter plates. My favorite part is how you can look closely and see the wear on them -- evidence of many meals past. For your internet share, how about these awesome photos from the 2014 National Geographic photo contest.
Ezra got so many awesome gifts today, and one of them was this amazing hat from his cousins in California. It fits perfectly, but I'm not sure Ez likes how much we laugh at him when he puts it on.The other notable thing about today was our discovery of Pulla. I stopped by the bakery yesterday to get some bread, and it was about 15 minutes before closing. They explained they had made too much to sell in that much time, and I could choose another loaf for free! I saw this Finnish bread, and was curious since it reminded me of Challah, but it's dusted with cardamom. You guys! You guys this is sooooo tasty! I love it with my morning coffee or toasted with jam. Now, I know I'm not supposed to be eating a lot of bread, but y'all, this is worth the cheat. Go get some. Trust me.
