Today I was shooting all over the city for a fun commercial project that I can't talk about too much now (but that I will talk about a lot once it goes live). One of the locations had me shooting on A HORSE FARM. Can you even imagine how much I loved this part of the assignment? Eeeegads!I wanted to show you guys something from the day, but obviously it needs to be an image that the client would never choose to use. So I picked this image. I was photographing one horse when I felt a tapping on my shoulder. I turned around and this guy here was RIGHT IN MY FACE. So I snapped a photo. I like how you can see the farm, woods, pen, etc reflected in his big eye.For your internet shares of the day, I give you the following:I want these leggings.I want these stamps.I want this dye job.And lastly, I got to shoot some photos this week with my girl Sarah (always a blast). And they are already live and in use! If you want awesome advice that you would get with girlfriends while having wine, I highly suggest her ebooks. Smart and funny!
This girl gets a LOT of nap time during my workdays. Until about noon. Then, it's all, "Can we go for a walk? How about now? NOW? How about right NOW?" Until I take her for a quick walk. But when she's all curled up like this? Holy cow is she cute. For your internet shares of the day today, I enjoyed this piece about a father teaching his 4-year-old daughter all about Star Wars. And have you all played the lightsaber game with your phones yet? WHY NOT??And on the home decor front, I loved this etsy site dedicated to antique mirrors. I looooove antique mirrors. So much better than the new ones. And speaking of classic decor, one of my favorite shops ever (who I did not learn about until AFTER my bathroom renovation -- which probably saved me a fortune) is having a sale. Have at it.
I have found my new winter snack. So I was thumbing through Bon Apétit last weekend, and I gotta be honest, I get the magazine for the food photography. Sure the recipes look AMAZING. But they also look like they take about 3 hours to make, contain about 75 ingredients, and the dishwashing when done would be a nightmare. I'm far too simple to actually cook a recipe from that publication.Until now.I found this dish and saw that, believe it or not, it only needed a few ingredients. And took 20 minutes to make. And sounded wonderful. So I tried it and fell in love. Now of course, because I'm me, I changed a few things up. Below is my take on the best way to make these delicious, warm, salty, flavorful chickpeas. Also? Don't just eat them warm from the pan (although that's totally acceptable). Put them in the fridge overnight where they get even more flavorful. Eat them cold. Eat them at room temperature. Add them to salads. Or eggs. Or whatever. Just ENJOY.You're welcome.** Also, check out how I now have fancy recipe cards on my new, shiny website! Isn't that exciting!?!

Holy cow am I glad I'm working on this winter project! I am having a BLAST!This morning, right after the boys left for work/school, I threw on a coat and jeans and headed down to Lake Harriet. I knew the lake was (finally) frozen -- and actually there was still one area of open water! -- and I knew it was supposed to snow tomorrow and we are in this really amazing window right now where you can see the clear ice on the lake because of the lack of snow. And you can walk on it. (!!!)First, you should know that I have a few basic fears. They include 1. Ax Murderers 2. Heights and 3. Falling through ice.So I was a touch nervous stepping out onto the lake when nobody else was out there, but I could see other's tracks, so I gave it a go. And I'm so glad I did! (Also, mad props to my amazing husband for gifting me some YakTrax this year so that I didn't fall on my duff.)One of my favorite parts about winter lake ice is the texture of it. Some areas are smooth as glass, others chopped up by ice skates, others marked by creature tracks, and like the photo above, the ice sometimes freezes in "waves" or mounds. And sometimes you can see the bubbles frozen below! I love it all. I hope you do, as well.
And finally, for your internet share of the day, I really enjoyed this piece about being a music fan as a woman. I could relate SO much -- I cannot tell you how often dudes at shows quiz me on my favorite songs or albums by bands. But on a lighter note, are you vowing to exercise more in 2016? I found these bad-ass exercise clothes that I'm coveting. Now... to win the lottery...And lastly, this video on how candy canes are made totally sucked me in. Who knew?
My kid is back.I'm not sure if it has come through in the last, oh, three or four posts, but we've been having a hard time over here. There's been a lot of illness, a serious lack of sleep, some teething etc etc. Through all of this, Ezra has become... shall we say, the "Luke Skywalker" of the family. And by that, we mean he's been a whiner. It was going on for so long that I was seriously worried that this was just who he had become and that "no" was his answer for everything (bright future in IT at a major corporation at least!) and that we had some serious lessons in "bucking up" to work on.But then! Then the New Year started and he slept. And slept and slept. And he started eating EVERYTHING again. Like, last night? For dinner? He had three helpings of salad (!?!) and a full bowl of lentil stew (which has curry! and paprika! and all kinds of nutty spices in it!), a big slice of naan and then on top of that he wanted some oranges for dessert. A toddler who smells like Indian food? I'll take it!I seriously could not be more relieved. Not because I think this will last (hahahhahaha! See? I'm learning!), but because I know this little guy that I love so much, who is easy going and loves to laugh and sing to himself in the car and eat all of the things -- I'll know he's not lost forever next time. I'll know that I just need to be patient. And that right there? That's an important thing to learn.
This is Ezra playing with his rad new dump truck that the amazing Matt and Bryan gave him for Christmas. And he's in a totally fabulous jammie set from Ina in Norway!Yeah... I am just now seeing how much the dog hair is sticking to those clothes. I could photoshop that out so you all thought we live like Martha Stewart. But now you know the truth. Magda owns the couch. She is the queen. As if there was ever any doubt.
On Saturday we went to a local gallery to see a WONDERFUL photo exhibit of Elliot Erwitt's work. If you are unfamiliar, please click on that link. His dog photos, in particular, have such a great sense of humor about them.
Just a straight-on shot so we can all admire that cute hat.
This was taken Sunday night after that big dinner. LOOK AT HOW HIS BELLY IS STICKING OUT. It's like he's growing a child in there. It makes me laugh. I love a fat, happy kid.
