Oh hi there!Do you wish you had a new portrait for, I dunno, Linked In? Facebook? Tinder? But posing in front of the camera is not your ideal?Don't worry. We've got you covered.Lucy and I are hosting some Headshot Happy Hours next month for those who need an internet refresh and might want a cocktail before stepping in front of the camera. When: Lucy will be shooting on April 19 and I'll be shooting on April 26. We'll aim for the hours of 4 - 6:30 pm.Where: We'll meet at our studio near Loring Park. We'll have the studio ready to go, but if you prefer something outdoors nearby, please let us know ahead of time and we can be prepped for that. How much: $150What do you get: You’ll get five final images of yourself, processed in both color and black and white (so 10 files total). They will be sized for online purposes only though, so you won’t be able to turn this into wallpaper. So sorry! How do your sessions work? Great question! All photographers work differently, and this should explain our process. How do I purchase? I’m so glad you asked! If you want a session with Lucy on April 19, go here. This photo just cracks me up. What a happy kid! And that drool! And those lashes! Oh, so adorable.February, March and April really slow down for me with the families. I'm still super busy with product photography and corporate portraits, but I see far fewer kids. So when these jobs do pop up in early spring, I just have so much fun with them! It's a nice breather from office spaces and grown-up small talk. This session was to document Charlie up there who is now 7 mos. old. I have been fortunate enough to photograph this family's dogs, then their first born and now Charlie, the latest addition to their family. I adore my visits with them, and watching a family bloom like this is pure delight. More photos below. That last frame was when I tried to play peek-a-boo with Charlie. He's not a fan. Ha! But I still love the image.Right now, I'm booking family sessions for May and June, so get at me if you want to get on the books. You know what happens in May? The trees bloom! It's lovely! And you know what else happens in May? Mother's Day. Pretty rad gift idea, eh?For my internet shares of the day:+ A wonderful Trader Joe's meal hack.+ A gorgeous apartment that is making me contemplate painting my dining room table black.+ Hilarious online purchasing errors.

Octo Fishbar

As you may know, I work with City Pages quite a bit, and some of my absolute favorite assignments are taking images for restaurant reviews (food photography in general is always a favorite of mine). This past week I stopped by Octo Fishbar in St. Paul - a new venture by restauranteur Tim Mckee - and let me tell you, or actually show you, how amazingly beautiful these dishes are. Each time the chef brought out a new plate, it seemed to be more beautiful than the last stunning dish. The red caviar that tops the lobster roll? Take a look at the way the light shines through creating such a gorgeous splash of red! I think I took a hundred different pictures of it.Anyway, I will leave it to the food critic herself, Hannah Sayle, to describe the food - you can read her review here! And you can see my full slideshow here (condensed version below).

As promised, here are a few shots of the eagles in Wabasha. I do love getting up close to these majestic birds. And those claws? Terrifying. One of the photos in here was a total mistake as some toddler who shall remain unnamed stepped right in front of my lens as I released the shutter, but I still like the effect of the image, so I'm keeping it. (Only proving further to his grandmothers that he can do no wrong.) And I'm just throwing this one in because these guys are so dang cute and I love those yellow pants. For your internet shares of the day:+ Could you live in 175 square feet? I think I could if I was still unmarried in my 20s.+ This looks like an amazing dessert.+ Mini makeovers for any room that you can do by yourself in a weekend. Some of these are genius!

what a fun kid!

Last week I had a shoot with that adorable 18-month-old, and I wanted to share a few more images from that session. In the winter, I have far fewer sessions with kids. So when I do have these little rascals in front of my camera, we try to have a ton of fun even when we're trapped inside due to freezing weather. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do!Internet shares!+ Jamie and I saw some friends with this gadget last weekend, and we promptly ran home to purchase our own. A dish rack that rolls up tiny under the sink? Yes, please!+ New Barbies for the girls in your life!+ More amazing photos of this planet we call home.

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? We had the whole day ahead of us on Sunday, so we decided to drive south along the St. Croix/Mississippi Rivers to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha. We'd never done that before, and we'd heard the river was full of eagles on the hunt this time of year (yup!), so we woke up late (thanks to the time change), made some pancakes, hopped in the car and we were on our way.We saw probably 10 eagles or so in the wild on our drive, and then at the center itself, they have some rehabbed birds who can no longer fly that they have on display and you can see closely.Today's post will feature the drive and the bleakness/beauty of our region right now. I am not gonna lie, I am ready for SUMMER. In fact, we spent a good 45 minutes of this drive talking about what we were most excited about this summer (grilling out, corn on the cob, watermelon, eating outside, planting the garden, summer walks, riding bikes, I mean the list just goes on).But we also talked about what we would miss once winter was gone. We decided fires in the fireplace were the top of that list. And snuggling with the warm dog. Summer is clearly winning right now. That bluff up there with the painting is a touch controversial right now. You can read about it here. And for your internet shares of the day:+ We made this for dinner last night and it was A+++ and so, so easy.+ This makes me think (or realize) we are living in Orwellian times. Rich republicans are just as terrifying as the politicians themselves.+ I want to make this for dinner soon!

the rest of the adorable Lincoln

Well let's just enjoy this beautiful creature a little more, shall we?Here are a few highlights from my shoot with Lincoln last weekend. He was such a charmer -- so sweet (so many kisses!) and so well behaved. I hope I can photograph him again some day. In the meantime, enjoy these shots. And how about some internet shares of the day?+ This Trader Joe's breakfast hack looks amazing. Saving for Sunday.+ I love the art of quilling, but this woman is taking it to another level (sidenote: I hired this artist years ago for a vita.mn cover and watching her evolve is FABULOUS).+ Are you old and saddled with children forcing you to lose touch with new music? Just me? NPR has a player that will introduce you to 100 new artists at SXSW this year. Thank God because the idea of attending that festival at this point in my life makes me want to fall asleep standing up.

Wednesdays are pretty busy around these parts. I've got piano, Ezra's got swimming and today I had a shoot in the morning and lunch with a friend. Not to mention the emails and meetings! But I started the day off with that adorable boy up there, who is 18 mos. old right now. Those curls on the back of his head! Aren't they adorable! I was so happy to capture those and his sweet shoulder blades. For your internet shares of the day:+  So I was also on the phone today with my government representatives discussing my displeasure about ALL of these republican bills. Getting rid of the EPA. GIVE ME A BREAK, PEOPLE. Trump's national portrait should just be this.+ Why getting your news from a newspaper instead of the internet or television is better.+ Those two links are pretty heavy, so here are some pretty pictures.
