Happy Friday!I shot this during an engagement session at the lake the other night, and wow do those clouds look like a blanket or what? I love the colors and sky and water in the fall. This season just speaks to my soul. This weekend, we're hoping to brunch with friends and hit up another apple orchard and maybe squeeze in a haircut. What are you all up to? I hope you get amazing weather for it.Here are a few internet shares for you!+ A wonderful new podcast about starting a business and what's involved. So far? Instagram and Spanx! + Pretty pictures of terraced farmlands.+ Did you hear Conor Oberst has a new album out? You can listen for free here. You're welcome.
This morning I got to photograph this American Bulldog pup. You guys would not believe how HEAVY this puppy was! I know bulldogs in general are dense, but wow! I went to scoop him up with one hand and could barely do it! And he's only 5 months old!But let's all just relish those forehead rolls, can we? So adorable.I have been so lucky to photograph so many wonderful puppies and dogs this year. Please, please, please keep them coming. It's good for my soul.
And for your internet share of the day, I have only one, but it's long. Please read to the end. I really enjoyed this article about Michael Chabon taking his son to fashion week and how even though we are all born knowing our families, it takes us a while to find our people.
Oh, what a wedding this was! There was a sweet and loving couple, beautiful spaces, gorgeous light, wonderful parents, so much laughter, and in general, a room filled to the brim with genuine love and adoration. I had such a marvelous time photographing this wedding, and I'm sure you'll know it by how many photos I have posted below! (Sorry -- I couldn't cut any out!)I absolutely adored this bride and groom, and I wish them all the wonderful adventure life has to offer. Cheers!
Special thanks to the wonderful Thea for working as my second shooter on this wedding -- I couldn't have done it without her!
Because I am a complete and total sucker for books, of course I order books of my photos all the time. Like every time we finish a great trip. Or every time I go on tour with a band (ok, that was only once, but I *do* have a book). Or every time my kid has a birthday.See, while this blog is an awesome place to hold all my memories of Ezra's first two years, I'm still paranoid that this whole internet thing is just a fad. KIDDING! But I do worry that something might happen someday and I could lose the images I have backed up on two computers, two external hard drives and the cloud. (Paranoid much? Yes, sir!)But beyond being afraid of technology eating my photos, I just like sitting on the couch and looking at books! It's fun! And they are so pretty and easy to make! So the bottom one is from Ezra's first year and the top one is from Ezra's second year. I honestly don't know if I'll have the determination to do one every year of this kid's life, but it sure is fun to flip through.Want your own photo book? I get mine here. I promise they are the best. And yes, I link to them all the time. And no, I don't get anything for it. I just like them that dang much. Now, for your internet shares of the day, things are sparse around these parts! But here are my favorites:+ My friend Sean had this photo taken of him at the airport. I'm not gonna tell you which one Sean is.+ I just read about this book and now I want it. Maybe you do, too?
This weekend, I shot an *amazing* wedding. I know I say that all the time, that this wedding or that wedding was amazing. But this? It barely even felt like work.Every aspect was so gorgeous (the dress, the couple, the light, the venues, hell, even the DISHES) that it all just sort of fell in place. Because the normal day-to-day of wedding stuff was going well, I began pushing myself to capture some under-the-radar emotions. It's easy for me to wrap a couple up in their arms and tell them to chat while I take some photos of them looking lovey-dovey (ok, actually, that's not always as easy as you would think). But I wanted to capture more than just the standard shots. I wanted to capture something that showed what it might feel like to be getting married that day. There were a few images that I thought fit the bill as I went back through my photos today, and one was the image above. This is the bride before her walk down the aisle, and she's fiddling with the rings. I think it capture the very small amount of jitters we all get before a wedding. And it's not always because we're nervous about the whole married part (I know that wasn't the case for me), but for many people it's nerves because of a million other things like getting up in front of 200 people to say your vows or maybe there's some family drama going on or maybe you're worried about that big event/dinner/party you planned that starts in an hour. Regardless of the reason, lots of people have butterflies before saying I do.I thought this image captured that nicely. Also? Wowza, look at that dress! And now for your internet shares of the day:+ These black and white storm photos make me want to chase tornados. + I meant to tell you this last week, but you can now figure out what your Patronus would be. Except mine was a CAT so I think it's all wrong. And if you don't know what this means, you really, really need to read the Harry Potter books, STAT.+ Why having a dog at home and leaving your shoes on will keep you healthier. Also, I'm hoping this works for Ezra who petted the UNDERSIDE of a goat's tail this weekend and then popped his thumb in his mouth as I was reaching for the Purell. Jesus Christ.+ Hotel secrets that are actually quite useful!
Happy Autumn, guys! To celebrate, I took Ezra to one of the many amazing apple orchards there are around here. There were corn mazes and tractor rides and a petting zoo and apples to pick (obviously) and apple DONUTS and a train-themed playground and a hay bale mountain and wow is this kid paradise or WHAT?And the best part was that when we arrived there was no one in the admissions booth. Because I am a nerd, I waited for 5 minutes before just shrugging my shoulders and walking in for free. I didn't feel *that* bad about it though because due to Ezra's short legs and short attention span, we only saw about a third of the features. But we still had a blast.I was glad we could get out and do something fun this morning since I'm shooting a wedding all day tomorrow and the boys will be on their own adventure. But... I am pretty excited about this wedding, I must admit. So that's what we're up to this weekend! I hope you guys have fun things planned as well. Here are your internet shares!+ There are many, many, many reasons I'm not voting for the orange man, but this is at the top of the list.+ These are fantastic career tips. Truly.+ How to get dinner on the table every night after work.
It has been pretty dark and rainy here in Minnesota the past few days, and we Plesser girls are just fine with that. It means open windows, cool breezes, warm coffee, snuggling under blankets and listening to Jonsi while we work.I'm also taking some serious snuggle time with the vizsla lately because, in honest terms, Ezra is being a prick to her. The toddler has figured out that she is the only one in his life who is lower on the totem pole (or so he thinks), and he is bossing her around all the time, yelling at her and throwing things at her. She takes it well and just saunters off, but it is making *me* angry at this point. Which makes me love her more. Which makes him more jealous. Oh this raising a toddler is gonna be FUN isn't it?Anyway, while the boys are at work/school, we try to enjoy the peace as much as we can. That means I get caught up on work at the computer and Magda naps in Ezra's room, making sure to cover his things in her fur. Well played, my dear. For your internet shares:+ I am totally going to this movie. It might be the first Jennifer Lawrence film that I am excited for!+ This interview with Obama is long, but so, so good.+ A perfectly preserved shipwreck called the USS Terror. Yeah. There's gonna be a movie.+ The Strib's fall arts guide is out and Sigur Ros is coming and I didn't know and this rock I'm living under is larger than I thought.
How adorable is that schnoz? Today I had the sweetest 9-year-old in the studio, and this boy just stole my heart. His parents are having a baby in December, and they wanted photos for the nursery (which, btw, is one of my favorite ideas!), and Ari here complied to his best ability. Isn't he adorable?
Just a few internet shares today:+ White people! Step up.+ Did you know California has a wild horse problem?+ I like this art.
