Have I mentioned that I'm afraid of heights? Today we took a gondola up Heavenly mountain in Tahoe to see the sights from up high -- and it was lovely (and terrifying). I like that you can really see how beautifully blue the water is from this high up, and that you can see the dusting on the mountaintops because it snowed a little last night! I really wish these heights didn't bother me so much, as the photos from these angles are so grand.Anyway, after that excitement, Jamie and I drove back to Sacramento (stopping at In-n-Out for lunch! Yay!), and we got to see the entire family upon arrival. Have I mentioned how nuts I am about all of my nieces and nephews? Because, you guys, it is so much fun to catch up with these fantastic kids. We went on a drive along the delta, visited a Chinese western town (no, really!) and then had a picnic at a winery before heading home for a long walk, steak dinner and Breaking Bad. Do you see why I adore these people? So many good times. For your internet share of the day, I'm going to tell you about a site I'm really enjoying right now called roadtrippers.com. You can plan amazing road trips using their data and reviews, and they help with driving routes, accommodations, attractions and all kinds of goodies. I'm planning a trip for the west coast (again) coming up in a few weeks, and this site has been invaluable. I am pretty sure I'll use it for all future trips as well!
Today was my Lake Tahoe wedding! And it rained all day long. It even snowed a little! And we saw a bear! Thank the lord this couple is easy going and flexible, because today required it tenfold, and they delivered. We moved the ceremony indoors (which turned out to be lovely) and we cancelled a gondola ride and the schedule was completely thrown off, but none of it mattered. All of the guests pitched in to make it all work seamlessly and everyone was so happy. It was really cool to see. After the wedding, the rain stopped (for about 10 minutes) so I rushed the couple outside the cabin for a few shots. And yes, right as I started this one, the rain began again. But I still love them surrounded by those amazingly tall trees. Tomorrow we head back to Sacramento for one evening to see the rest of the nieces and nephews -- and then it's back to Minneapolis. What a wonderful weekend! No internet share today -- too tired from working. I'll try to put something extra special in later this week to make up for it! Just sit back and enjoy your Sunday!
We drove into Lake Tahoe this afternoon, and unsurprisingly, it's stunning. The water is so clear and so blue... It's really quite lovely. And y'all should see this mansion place where we're staying! The bride and groom rented this house... I think it has 8 bedrooms? 10 bedrooms? A million bathrooms? At least three staircases? I swear, I'm gonna find a secret passageway before I leave. As I write this, I'm sitting in front of a big fire while others make s'mores. Life is good.Anyway, we arrived today a little after three, and we decided to drive around the lake and see all the sights. We were a touch naive in thinking it would take about an hour (it took at least two), but hey! Great photos! You can see the full set over here. The wedding is tomorrow, so those photos will be a touch different than these. Enjoy!
Man, it's good to be back in California. This is where all of our nieces and nephews are (and my fabulous brother and sister-in-law) and it is always so much fun to visit. This car up here was Jamie's dad's, and it was shipped to California last year so the family (and kids) could enjoy it. Jamie and his brother took it out tonight, which was great to see. And then later tonight I made Eloise pose with her boyfriend in it (sorry kiddo). We're here just for the night before we head up to Lake Tahoe tomorrow afternoon to shoot a wedding (!!!). I've never been to Tahoe before, and I'm pretty eager to take photos of lakes and mountains and maybe even a waterfall (oh, and a bride and groom as well!). Somebody please pinch me -- I can't believe this is my life. For your internet share of the day, I'm sending you to these crazy, cool images from the Burning Man festival. They look otherworldly, and I could stare for hours. Enjoy!
Today I photographed a famous cat for a famous pet food company. I can't really say much else until it's all public and out in the real world, but man am I having fun. And cats! Kinda the same as dogs to photograph... kinda different. Anyway, I'll be sure to post more about it all later when I'm allowed. This shot was of the apartment decor where we held the shoot. I loved how modern and retro it was all at once. For your internet share of the day, I am going to show you how to peel a full head of garlic in under 10 seconds. Awesome!*Also, only FOUR of you went and listened to CHVRCHES yesterday. This better be because you sneaky bastards already downloaded the album because otherwise it would indicate you don't trust my musical taste. And I know *that* isn't the case. (cough, cough) And yes, I do watch that kind of data and I do know how many of you click on my links. It's like big brother over here! (With much more punk music and cursing.)
Moments before I flew out to Chicago this weekend, a giant box arrived in the mail from Caldrea. Those lovelies sent me a care package! How nice was THAT? And you guys, it was loaded with all my favorite goodies, including this fabulous new tea/olive/lime scent that I am currently smitten with. So today when I was trying to think of what to style for my product shot project, I fell to these. The smaller bottle on the left is perfume, and the right is body oil. I've never really used body oil before, but I've found it's marvelous after a shower or before bed.Oh, and don't worry, they sent me these travel sizes along with full sized bottles as well. I am set for LIFE!And in the spirit of product styling, your internet share of the day is a cool write-up on perfectly styled coffee tables. (Posted by the girl who does not own a coffee table.) Also, to enjoy along with the design piece or on its own, I'm including a link to stream the new CHVRCHES album, which is one of my very favorites of the year. You're welcome!!
This morning we flew back from Chicago, and Magda was bursting with enthusiasm when I got home. I have never been attacked with love at such force before, and it was adorable. But one thing that really stuck with me was how *big* she was. Seeing her day-to-day, you kindof lose track at how much she's growing. In my mind, she's still the size above (taken on July 8). When in fact, she is very much a DOG now.And let me be clear, she's a dog who likes to be in charge. Much like an annoying coworker, she loves to tell you what to do and how to do it. Today I had to use my first few hours with her re-establishing the pack order and showing her that 1) I was in charge and 2) Yes, in fact, it IS nap time. Because after 3 hours of sleep and an all-day music festival in the rain, I was still feeling old and tired. But don't worry, I have since recovered. The healing powers of a steamy shower and a 2-hour nap are quite remarkable. And speaking of being a touch old, crabby and cold, today's internet share of the day is of an iceberg discovered in Antarctica that looks like a grumpy old man. I love it!* Side note: Breaking Bad! Hoooooly Moly was that stressful and sad and thought provoking. And Jesse! OMG, JESSE! I am totally shell shocked after watching that tonight.
