a great weekend

post by leslie

I finally started feeling much better, so I was back at it with a ton of families this weekend! This is my happy spot -- especially because every family I photographed had a sweet, sweet dog who was a top priority! To say I was thrilled is an understatement.Today I'll start with this adorable crew. They were so much fun -- three kids under 6 and a big fluffy dog? It was a total blast. Enjoy!

Grace & Josh

Post by Lucy

On December 27th, I had the pleasure of photographing a very intimate wedding that included the couple and their immediate families. The pair, Grace and Josh, got ready in their room at the Hewing Hotel before heading over to the St. Paul Courthouse for a civil ceremony. We built in time in the day to take getting ready photos, and to take family portraits as well. This couple filled their day with so much meaning. From beautiful outfits, to incorporating family momentos, to writing beautiful vows, these two created a celebration that spectacularly marked their day. I’m so glad I was able to capture it!

anticipation

Welp, remember that migraine I had? Who knew it was the start to this sickness that has knocked me out all week. I've been couch-bound with a fever since Tuesday evening, meaning I rescheduled all of my shoots, meaning I don't have much fresh material to show you all. The good news is that all of my clients are so amazingly understanding, and rescheduling was a breeze. But despite no new photos, between naps I have been busy with several wedding contracts, which gave me an idea for a blog post.Couples often tell me that they don't really want me there for the "getting ready" bit, and to just show up right before the ceremony. I always push back on this because, honestly, the getting ready part is my very favorite. These are the moments when we capture the anticipation of the day, the details such as rings, invitations, flowers, shoes etc, and those special moments like when a father sees his daughter as a bride for the first time.I can tell you 100% that I don't remember a thing about my shoes on my wedding day. What was my something blue? No idea. Who zipped me into my dress? Probably my mom, but I honestly don't remember. And that's because my photographer showed up at the wedding, and not before. I wish I had these photos of my own day, and it's part of why I insist on it for my clients. So I pulled together a few of my favorite shots from the "getting ready" portion of the day to share with you all. I hope you, too, can see why I love these moments. It's like the quiet before the storm.

the caretaker

Hello, and thank you for your patience between postings! I had a commercial shoot that took up most of my time last week and yesterday, and only today did I feel like I could take a moment to catch you up on my world.First off, I woke up this morning with a horrendous headache. I've had a few of these lately, but it's not too surprising as my sinuses are deeply affected by weather change, and things are just about to get a whole lot colder in Minnesota (or back to normal, I suppose). Regardless, they can be immobilizing.Anyway, I woke up with this blinding headache that had me nauseous and craving the dark and quiet. The boys left for work/school and I stayed in bed a bit longer with my Magda who always seems to know when I'm in a bad place. She quietly snuggled with me as I attempted to recuperate and prepare for a day in front of the computer, and she was patient when I picked up the camera (good girl).I thought she would make perfect blog fodder as I haven't featured her much lately. You can see the whitening of her face due to age, but you should also know that the white on top of her nose is due to the yogurt containers she gets the final clean on each morning after breakfast. We've started calling her Chobani as a nickname due to the permanence of these speckles on her nose. Isn't dog ownership just about the best? Obviously, I think so.For your internet shares of the day:+ Beautiful murmurations of birds.+ Something sad. Hug those you love.+ I love, love, love these portraits.

coffee date

post by leslie

Hey look who got her picture taken! Me!This past weekend, Jamie and I walked with Ezra up to our local coffee shop to read library books and enjoy a pastry or two. I was taking photos of the two of them when Jamie asked to take a few. I have to resist the urge to say no and run away because I really, really, REALLY want Ezra to have photos of the two of us having fun when he gets older even though I despise having my photo taken (ironic, I know). So hats off to Jamie for the good work!

Ok! I know most of you started work again LAST week with the  normal population, but for those of us with children on the longest winter break of our lives, today marks the fresh start we've been waiting for! My kid got to school on time, I have worked out, I have practiced the piano and now I'm back at my desk ready for exciting things!Winter break was a lot of fun for us (I'll post more about it later this week), but it's also time to dig into all my work resolutions! And I'm excited about that!Today I'm showing you photos of Marlowe, Bizzie and JoJo. Marlow, the handsome, sweet, kind, and always-ready-to-please boy up top, is nearing the end of his time with us on planet earth, and his moms wanted him captured. I was so honored they brought him in -- he was a real delight to work with. And his nuttier siblings also were hilarious and fun to meet! Photos of the whole gang below! For your internet shares of the day:+ In case you haven't read about ordering crickets online yet, this made me snort water out of my nose and I highly suggest it.+ White people: Please be the first.+ Can you say dream job?

Hello from NYC! I am on a little trip out east, and am so happy to be here! My brother and sister-in-law live in the city, along with a couple old friends, so I try to make it out here at least once a year to visit them. The last few years I have also been working for my brother, and his business partners, taking photos at their various restaurants and catering companies (talk about a dream job!). They have four spots in Manhattan - The Wild Son, Goodnight Sonny, The Lost Lady and The Wayland. And, they are branching out into catering with Cocktails in Motion. These images I shot yesterday for the catering brand. Today, I'll be heading to the Wayland, Lost Lady and Goodnight Sonny to shoot some updated menu items -- it'll be busy, but it's so fun working with their teams that it's hard to even call this work! While I am not shooting, it's been wonderful just wandering around the city, stopping into shops and museums, people watching, etc. I've been to a comedy show at UCB, heading to a jazz club tomorrow, dinner out at a new restaurant tonight...It's always hard to pick what to do with everything going on here. For now, I am going to log off now and head out for a run in Prospect Park before jumping in to a full day of photography!
