It was a chilly morning full of drizzle, but I still took Magda for her daily walk, which she appreciated greatly. She was on the hunt. You see, when I looked out the window first thing this morning, there were two ducks in our front yard! I, of course, grabbed my camera, but they had wandered down the block by the time I found a fresh battery and memory card. And since I was still in my jammies, I wasn't ready to go that far yet.Anyway, the point was that Magda saw them as well and was itching to get outside. So after my workout, I threw on my sneakers, grabbed my camera and headed out with the girl. Sadly, the ducks had fled the neighborhood (or were hiding). But I snapped a few photos of things I spotted while we were out.Namely, I loved how new growth still comes up red, and then that same red is in the dead things from last year (below).
For your internet share of the day, check out the photos of this amazing children's library in Oslo. Maybe we'll have to take Ezra some day... And speaking of reading to children, these photos slay me.
You guys, I have discovered a salmon recipe that I love. I have known for years and years and years how healthy salmon is and why I should be eating it etc etc etc. But... I just am not wild about how it tastes! And I *want* to be wild about it! I do! But I'm not.Until now.I found this recipe, and I decided to try it because of all the leeks. You guys may or may not know by now how much I adore leeks. Yuuuuummm... And you know what? Something about the leeks and the way it all cooks together makes this way less fishy. It's just divine.
And, unlike most other meats, it even looks pretty when raw! The recipe is below -- enjoy![kindred-recipe id="12840" title="salmon with leeks and lemon"]If you'd like an internet share of the day, how about this refresher on dinner etiquette? Or here is a story about a college student who saved a girl's life on Easter.
Well, guess who got the kid's stomach bug.Yup. Me.So, yesterday was... horrible. But today is much better. I still don't have much of an appetite, so popsicles for all meals it is. My favorites are the Outshine popsicles in the mango flavor. Those are top notch.I actually made a delicious salmon recipe this weekend and took photos and everything and was going to blog that today... but looking at photos of fish was not the best idea with my stomach in its current state. So you'll have to wait on that one.
No internet post today -- too busy wrangling sick kid, sassy dog and keeping myself healthy.
What a weekend. As I mentioned, I kept Ezra out of daycare on Friday so we could have an extra day together. We went to the zoo to see the baby farm animals with dear Nyberg, and it was so much fun. When we got home, I put Ezra down for his nap and he slept, and slept and slept... and slept. Finally, after almost 3 hours I went in to check on him, and we'll just say there had been some "intestinal distress" during his sleep. And it was everywhere.Ah, parenthood. The rest of the entire weekend was spent at home playing, sleeping, dying Easter eggs, coloring etc, etc, etc. And it was also full of puke cleanup duty, horrendous diapers and SO MUCH LAUNDRY.And KU lost in the Elite Eight. And I almost sliced the tip of my finger clean off while cooking. But, it's a new week, and hopefully Ezra's appetite returns soon (along with a tougher stomach). At least his spirits remained high despite the illness... and he's still adorable. He has those 2 things going for him, for sure.
For your internet shares of the day, I think this movie will fix my thirst for more Downton Abbey (for a minute, anyway).
Happy Friday, y'all! I'm taking the day off work and heading out to see farm animals with the kid and a dear friend. Also on the docket? Bike supplies for summer! It should be a good day.And last night I finally made it down to the lake at sunset trying to find the owl that is nesting down there. Success! Can you even believe the camouflage? So interesting!
For your internet shares today, this photo took my breath away in yesterday's paper. This recipe sounds wonderful -- who wants to bake this for me? And here are some winners of the Smithsonian photo contest that I love -- especially the fireflies!
I had a super fun photoshoot yesterday afternoon with this adorable baby and his canine brother, Gordon. How cute is this moment!?!I would love to tell you more about my days right now, but I am super slammed with jobs and work because I'm trying super hard to take tomorrow away from work and the computer so I can take The Spawn to see some baby farm animals. Hopefully, you'll forgive me when you see the images on Monday. In the meantime, how about this winter coat, eh? Genius!
I'm heading out to do some shooting this afternoon, but I wanted to blog beforehand so I could collapse onto the couch tonight and veg out. Ever need a night like that? I do. I've been working out more in the mornings this week, and I'm so stiff and sore that not only am I going to meld into the sofa, but I think I'll have a heating pad beneath me.This fighting against getting old and creaky is hard work!Anyway, I was flipping through some archives, and this photo of the leopards from a few weeks back really made me pause. It's almost like a mirror reflection! The leopard on the left is the father and the one on the right is the daughter. And look at that long and fluffy tail! For your internet share of the day, my mother-in-law makes amazing mandel bread, and this recipe is inspiring me to try it out myself. Enjoy!
Sunday night, I taught a concert photography class to ... teenagers? I didn't ask their ages. I would guess the class ages ranged from 17-20, but now that I'm so ancient, I could totally be off.Anyway, I taught the course over at The Garage, which is this awesome space for underage kids to see shows. There were four bands that night (The Everyday Characters, Unturned, The Frights and SWMRS). No, I hadn't heard of any of them before, although I did know that SWMRS had Billie Joe Armstrong's kid in the band. And The Frights surprised me with covers of Paradise City and some Weezer. They probably love that "classic rock."But, you know me! I love teaching others how to take better photos and share any tips or tricks I might have. So this was a lot of fun. While the bands were on stage, I shot some photos, troubleshot camera issues with some of the students, and did critiques. So these are just a few images I captured between that.
For your internet share of the day, I'm enjoying the new Underworld album while I work this week. I also loved reading these quotes (at the bottom) about surprising things American moms learned while parenting abroad.
